Root [Boost Mobile] Working ROMS/MODS/KERNELS/MODEMS/ECT for the Boost S3

The whole thing is that I see everyone is now on this philz thing.

Also, I don't want that knox crap, which is the whole clinching reason I decided to switch. But I don't know what to switch to. And the fact that the phone rather obnoxiously interrupts what I'm doing to try and make me update Really grates on me.

But I don't know what to run next. I liked StaticPower because it gave the stock feel, but seemed to run much better on battery than MOAR. I would want to run 4.4, but not with Knox.

Yep. Philz is the best recovery available right now IMO.

Right now the only way you're gonna get 4.4.2 w/o Knox is to go with the AOSP ROMS like Liquidsmooth, CM11, Carbon, SOKP, etc.. TouchWiz w/o Knox isn't available and from the way things are looking, it may be here to stay.

Hell yeah bro. SOKP is badass. Loving it. I use player pro with the DSP pack as well. Usually I use viper. I haven't flashed the add on. Does the eq do a good enough job to not use viper?

It is fricken loud! I usually use a Bluetooth speaker at home or plug into my stereo in the car. Only time speaker is used is when my phone rings lol.

Then what do I do? Right now I don't have time to deal with this, but as this is also my only phone, I need it to work. And it sounds like those other roms basically just break everything pertaining to sms, mms, data, et al. Sad to say, but a phone without a working data is somehow worse than a phone that never had that luxury to begin with.

I know that the last time I tried, TWRP was the recovery I was using. So okay... so apparently I need to update recovery, again. And move on to another rom altogether. What would be the plan of attack I'd need to follow?

You have lots of options. With the APN fix all these ROMs work. Data MMS etc. With aosp ROMs I just use hangouts for SMS and MMS but you can work to get stock messaging working. The options are limitless for what ROM you want to run. Pick one and we, as a community, will let you know if there are any bugs you need yo be aware of. Right now sokp is a solid new choice for a non tw ROM. You can also run JDS stock tw if you want that route. I prefer barebones for tw personally.

Hey bro. Thanks for grabbing those questions.

As for the widget EQ and Walkman from the add-on, it's definitely nice and sounds great. You have to tap the EQ on the widget to select classical, rock, hip hop, etc. It even has a setting for car stereo. That's what I'm talking about because I use my phone through my car speakers all the time. The EQ widget takes a minute to figure out but it definitely makes a difference and sounds great.

The add-on package also contains some other nice Sony apps. I definitely recommend flashing the it. It also has Sony in-car mode. I use the paid Car Widget app but the Sony in-car is a nice bonus for users who don't use another app and need it.

Also, to any of you who want to flash SOKP, after flashing the new APN fix, give data a bit to settle in. Once it's settled in it works fine. I'd been using wifi and it took about a minute for the phone to switch over to 3g for the 1st time. After that 1st use of the phones data you're good to go.

This ROM is packed full of goodies. As Kreatur3 mentioned, it has active display too.

The ROM also comes with Xposed Framework. It's under SOKP CONTROL/ ADVANCED CONTROL.

I usually don't use a lot of the extra stuff in many of the ROMs but SOKP actually has mods added that are useful to me. I'm going to stay with it for awhile and see how things go.

I'm also running the newest DKP KERNEL.:D

I have no idea what any of that means.

Then you need to read 1st and then ask questions. That's how most of us in here learned what we know. :D

I still don't know much but I answer questions when I can. :)

Side note is that most of my music listening is with Pandora and the er in SOKP doesn't work with it. Still have to use Viper. Not a big deal though. Oh and an annoyance is that the lock screen doesn't refresh the artist while listening to Pandora. Nitpicking I know. Lol.

I'm actually finding some things that aren't right too. When I tried to hang up the last call I had the phone locked up. I've also had the screen lock up on incoming calls. It allowed me to answer the call but it was sideways. Stuff like that annoys the hell out of me. LOL!

I like this ROM but I may end up going back and giving the new 3.0 Liquidsmooth a try.

Okay, so it's my understanding that I can use TWRP to update to the current version of Philz, correct?

And I apparently need to download some other kind of fix to make sure that wifi/2g/3g/4g/mms/sms work again if and when I can flash to one of these other roms, true?

Then, the next obvious question would be... well, there's a reason I spent the $40 USD for the zerolemon battery. Battery life is important, but so is reliability; and pretty sure like most, I hate it when stuff just wants to lag up or stop responding :) . Per your guys' opinion, which would be the best KitKat ROM to run on the S3 that meets (and/or exceeds) on these parameters?

imo liquid smooth was the best for me but when it comes down to it each phone has a mind of its own. some roms work best on some phones and other roms on others. try them all ide say it takes about 2 days after you set up to decide if the rom is for you. takes time but its worth it. dont forget u can always backup a rom u really like and restore when u decide the rom your on doesnt exactly run how u would like. process of elimination.

If the new build of ls fixes some oh their recent issues it's, in my opinion, the best non tw ROM on or phone

I run SlimKat. Everything works. No issues. No lag. No random reboots. No freezes. No missed alarms. No force closes. Great battery life. Personally I think it's the best thing going right now. I haven't even updated in weeks because nothing needed fixing. I only made one change... A simple build.prop edit to change the screen density to 280 instead of 245. Stock is 320. 280 seems perfect.
And yes, use the newest Philz. You'll need to flash rom, gapps then reboot then flash the APN fix. Be sure to use the gapps from the rom thread you're using...
