OK, finally got my Note 3 to root with VRoot after numerous failed attempts with Kingo. I am running stock 4.3, all I have done is root. My baseband is MJE.

So, are there any 4.3 versions of Hyperdrive I can install?

If I install the 4.4 KitKat version of Hyperdrive am I going to have to flash something with Odin to be able to do that? Been reading and reading and this seems a little more complicated than when I rooted my Galaxy Nexus.

It is quite complicated, but not impossible.

Now that you're rooted, you want to download and install Safestrap version 3.65. That is the 4.3 version; there is a separate 3.72 version for KitKat ONLY. Hyperdrive RLS 8 just came out for KitKat (making backups to flash it now). Your choice.

If you choose Hyperdrive 7, install Safestrap and run it. It will install a limited, custom version of TWRP on your phone. Leave the rooted, stock OS in the Stock Slot and flash your ROM in Slot 1. Then you can set it up and play with it as usual.

If you choose Hyperdrive 8, just install BusyBox first, THEN Safestrap 3.72. Then flash your ROM in Slot 1.

The purpose of Safestrap is to isolate the bootloader and the stock ROM, since we can't unlock the bootloader. This leaves Knox intact and the stock OS thinks everything is just fine... meanwhile, you're running the custom ROM from the microSD card (make sure you have at least a Class 6-10 or UHS card).

Hope this helps: see you on the other side!

Thanks Chief!

What is confusing on this phone is all the work around stuff for the locked boot loader and knox stuff. It was much easier on the Nexus.

if I flash 4.4 KitKat (the hyperdrive version) to start with am I stuck at 4.4 or can I flash back or restore back to 4.3? Or do I have to flash a stock 4.3 in Odin wiping everything to go back to 4.3. I have SafeStrap 3.71 and 3.72 and the KitKat version of Hyperdrive now. I cannot find any links to Hyperdrive 4.3 versions...all links take me to 4.4. So, I am just trying to see what is the best way to jump in...at 4.4 or 4.3 :D

I can't answer that, DarkCyber... I am having some serious issues with Safestrap.

I went to the Stock Slot, installed Busybox, opened Safestrap and installed Recovery. It says "installed". But FOR THE LIFE OF ME I can't get to Recovery! No matter how I reboot this thing, it always boots up into Stock Slot immediately.

Any tips here would be great ;)

I'll be working on mine today/tonight. If I come up with anything I will let you know. Sorry for your troubles.

If you do get on 4.4 successfully it is easy to go back to 4.3.
I did it because the NC2 modem/radio sucked for me and also ss doesn't allow for slots yet on 4.4.
All you do is Odin the stock MJE tar file then root with Kingo then install the older safestrap and you're good.
I'm waiting to go back to 4.4 until ss is updated and to see if the NC4 modem works better.

dougdirt,

Thanks! Yes, I have been doing a lot of reading today and playing with my Note 3. I was going to go straight to Hyperdrive 4.4 with SafeStrap 3.72, but I never could get 3.72 to install. So, I did dig up that 3.72 does not support slots and that made it an easy decision for me at the moment. I just don't download SafeStrap 3.65 and about to try and install it and finally found a link for Hyperdrive RSL7 (4.3) and I am downloading it now. So, I'm jumping in at 4.3 for now. :D
