Root [Boost Mobile] Working ROMS/MODS/KERNELS/MODEMS/ECT for the Boost S3

I dont see the big deal with knox my factory warranty is up in june so I took the dive. My signal has always been great with boost so I wasnt worried about loosing service any where but im on the east coast close to new York. And the price of the s3 was cut in half also so it wouldn't really hurt the pocket to buy a new one been thinkin about getting a back up just in case. Its right around the price boost insurance cost to replace it might as well buy a new one if anything happened

Lmao. I just give you shit at times. I go off subject as well. Nexus project? Like they are going to stop that line of phones?

I just saw a video on YouTube saying that the Nexus program was shutting down and that the Nexus 6 was canceled.

This is rumor but it came from a reputable YouTube source. That sux because I had mentioned earlier that I would be getting a Nexus as my new phone if they added a removable battery and SD card.

It's going to be interesting to see what's really going on.

Its been a rumor for a while now, and its supposedly being replaced, Not cancelled

I'm sure we have a thread on android silver somewhere around here ;)

We also don't have any evidence for a nexus 6- so its hard to say it was cancelled if it was never planned to in the first place ;)

Thanks for the info. Nice to hear that it will possibly be replaced and not canceled. After seeing what a huge hit the Nexus devices have been, it's hard to believe Google would cancel it all together.

That is a rumour, but there is good reason to believe that it is in Google's best interest to keep an up to date device available. It acts as a reference device for devs to use for comparison since it runs stock android and gets updates immediately without TW or Sense skins added. It doesn't necessarily have to have the Nexus name. Other companies like LG make them anyway. It might get replaced with another form that provides the same benefits.

I doubt that they will release one with an SD card slot. That is always on my list too. Apparently, it does create added complexity that they are trying to avoid. Their aim is to slowly wean us off SD in favor of the cloud.

I really prefer a removable battery too, but it creates problems related to space and water proofing, from what I read. I don't know if they are going away any time soon.

It is amazing that cell phone hardware has kind of hit the point that most upgrades really don't add much to the users experience at this point.

There are new radios in the newer phones, but unless you live in the right area, they are useless.

Screen resolution is getting to be beyond the point that the human eye can see and only uses more battery and processing.

Cameras will always improve, but most phones still don't try to compete with the best cameras out there.

One of the biggest advances would be in longer lasting batteries with small form factors.

The S3 seems to be one of the first phones that has the specs to hang with the big boys for an extended period. At the moment, we are still in the game with a lot of people still using our device. Glad I bought this phone and plan to keep it for a long while. I will not get another Samsung, pretty sure about that. Sad to day that, but it is true.

I would like to get a new Nexus at some point, even if just to use for flashing new Roms and getting the newest OTAs. Just have to see what happens.

From what I've heard HTC is making the Nexus 8, which is rumored to be released this summer. Code name is, from what I've heard, "Flounder."

Worth a read:
http://www.engadget.com/2014/04/21/htc-nexus-8/

We actually do have evidence of a Nexus 6:
http://bgr.com/2014/05/13/nexus-8-and-nexus-6/

Maybe HTC will pick up the Nexus line?
Hope this helps!

Yes, all signs are pointing to an 8.9" nexus tablet made by HTC being released at IO this year.

And you are right, the nexus 6 was mentioned previously.

I don't really put much weight on all of the rumors that nexus is "dead", because if it goes anywhere it will be replaced. Google needs a nexus-like program, even if it isnt called nexus.

I agree Wy. I'm glad I bought the S3 too. It is definitely a very versatile phone and still has a large user base. Development is still going strong too.

I'll definitely be keeping mine for good while longer. A lot is going to change between now and when the time comes for me to choose another device. Until then, I'm going to sit back, enjoy my S3, and try to keep this thread updated. We've still got some great Devs working on this phone.

If that's what you want to do, I'm good with it.

The main reason I mentioned it here was because a few S3 members had mentioned upgrading to the next Nexus phone.

Yep. Biker, I should add a good Lord willing and a knock on wood for good measure. I am one good Toilet Drop away from having to reactivate my Prevail and Saving Up. If that happened, I would probably buy a Moto G while I saved up. I think that an LTE version is coming out.

I treat my phone like a raw egg and I try to anticipate possible mishaps all the time, but, it could happen anytime. It has proven to be pretty tough so far, but I hear a lot of horror stories about cracked screens.

Knock on Wood. Where is the rabbits foot?

Bro, I know this Zerolemon Rugged Case has saved my phone twice in the past 2 months. I'm like you and am very careful with my phone. Still, accidents do happen.

If anything like that were to happen I would reactivate my Marquee. As for which phone I would go with when I had saved the money up, I don't know. I'm pretty sure I won't be going with Boost again though. The other carriers have gotten competitive with their pricing. That and their coverage is better.

Boost just keeps on taking without giving anything in return. Sad but true.

UPDATE!!

FOR ANY OF YOU WHO ARE RUNNING MOAR MK3 AND KEEP GETTING THE NAGGING UPDATE NOTIFICATION, THERE IS A FIX FOR IT LOCATED HERE-
xda-developers - View Single Post - [ROM][MOAR][MK3] v9.0.1 / 50+ Mods / Morphology / Your theme your way [3.9.14]

I am running the wicked sensation ( which I have now for a few months with no forecloses and no issues no problems whatsoever with anything) and I started getting that update I just did it the way that we did it with the prevail I used auto starts went to after start up then Google framework it is the third one down and disabled that and have not seen the update since then. You also have to use a root or file Explorer and go into the system cache and delete the downloaded info. Also on the prevail deleted that one part of Google framework, but on the s3 I think it will mess something up so using autostarts works for sure.

True. I got throttled this month under the new policy. It is basically back to 2011 for me. Ridiculous. I cannot wait until the 28th. I will be more aggressive in using Wifi now. The old throttle was bad enough, but it was usable. Not this.

Sprint is bleeding users every month. They have loyal customers who have stood by them with all the years of promises that they made. Now, that their network is improving they are trying to back off the unlimited plans every way they can. The competition has better networks and are getting better on price. They are pushing us away.

Excellent!! I didn't even think about using Autostarts bro. That's originally why I bought the app for the Prevail to begin with. Thanks for the reminder. :D

They sure are. Do they think they can just keep taking from us w/o offering something in return? Especially with long-term customers like you and I. I've been with Boost since 2009.

It's SAD Bro!

Yeah, I'll admit I'm pretty annoyed with them as of late as well. Ive been with them for at least 11 years. Granted, they finally have usable data in my area now that network vision is nearing completion here.

I've been due for an upgrade the past 2 months but the unlimited everything plan I'm on isn't available anymore. They're pushing the framily plans hard but that's not unlimited data, which is why everyone stuck around to begin with.

/mini rant over :)

Okay... I have to say that after a while I am just not finding these AOSP roms all that usable. It's nice that they're tiny, but that seems to be the only real strength here. Even trying to take a photo now is a challenge, and the pictures that do get to successfully finish saving just don't look right.

So I guess now I need a plan of attack, again.

Does this ND8 thing include knox? how screwed am I going to be if I go back to a Touchwiz ROM now? I admit that I ask some of these questions because I am sh*t scared of bricking my phone (and having no money to buy a replacement :( ).

If I remember right I'd also need to flash some additional stuff to restore data and mms if I do this again. But at least I should be able to properly get the PRL/Profile updates. For what it's worth, I was Happy with StaticPower v2. The problem was that the update notification for kitkat on it really does directly interfere with when I'm actually trying to do stuff with the phone and won't give me an option to decline the update. :(

If you're on a custom TW rom and custom recovery just accept the update and the notification will go away. Obviously without the update actually installing as it's a custom recovery.

I, and a few others, have taken the nd8 update and been knoxed up. I don't have any regrets for doing it. At all.

No regrets here either. So far mine is running like a champ. Signal is decent too.

I took the MK5 OTA, so have had Knox for awhile with no issues yet either update.

I just got through flashing and setting up the newest 6.2 release of Wicked-X. I had flashed the 1st version but it still had a few bugs that bugged me lol. Ryan is progressing nicely with his ROM.

I've flashed the data toggle zip and the hot spot fix zip. Sure, there's work yet to be done but isn't that the case with all ROMs? I will say this..... the ROM is buttery smooth. He has added the KT747 kernel to the ROM along with quite a few other mods. They are all nice additions.

If you've taken the update and want to try out a nice ROM, give Wicked-X a try. :)

Right now I'm on SlimKat, both simply because I'd been rather busy, and not had time to really evaluate anything else.

Problem is I don't know what else to really try here.
