Root [MetroPCS] Install 4.4.2 tw on Metro m919n how to guide!

For those that want to get official 4.4.2 tw on there metro pcs m919n Here's how to.

This is easy and works and safe.
FIRST :
Note that you will loose your stock metro 4.3 shipped firmware for good for the following reason.
Your updating to a 4.4.2 firmware which will not allow you to downgrade with Odin to 4.3 anymore cause the bootloader updates
SECONDLY : The reason being is because it's a official Tmobile 4.4.2 ota. You'll be stuck with there version of firmware which is everything you'd get with metros 4.4.2 Besides there bloat ware you swap for tmobile bloat.
No harm with this Install cause most of us already know we can flash tmobile 4.3 roms.. All day as long as your metro s4 is on 4.3 firmware

There's no difference in anything else these are Nearly same phones same roms. Just one labeled as Metro one tmobile.

The How to part:

Yes you can safely flash M919 tmobile s4 tar over your metro s4.
Flash stock UVUEMK2 4.3 on your s4.
This will make it officially a tmobile s4.
Your still on Metro service with tmobile data cause we use tmobile towers.
Wifi calling stays there same Everything does in fact .
You'll Loose The Option To Make It A Metro S4 For now Based On lack of a Metro 4.4.2 offical FIRMWARE availability .
NOTE: YOU WILL be able to get back on Metro firmware Via Odin once metro releases 4.4.2 and there's an available tar file.

For now Download and flash m919 UVUEMK2 on your s4.
Then it's stock at that point No root.
Then Go to system about updates Via wifi and you'll see the ota 379mb.. file to Update to 4.4.2 Kitkat.
Once rebooted your on Tmobile 4.4.2 on Metro s4.
Features :

Album art on locks screen for pandora and music
Cam shortcut
The.. Ui color is different a bit.
and a few others..
As well as Faster charging and better battery

RE-ROOT with Cf auto m919

Note: As of now Custom recovery is broken @ Unavailable. There may be one Soon
You'd have to check around on xda and Google .
I know Philz cwm works with tmobile Note 3
it also May be available for the m919 which would work for m919n.

Best of luck.

Thanks a lot for your guide but for the moment I prefer to stay Knox free until stock 4.4 MetroPCS arrive in a couple of weeks and maybe would extract the new Metro baseband and flash it. Right now I have the KitKat Echoe v17 installed on my Metro S4 running on the old Metro MF2 bootloader with 4.3 Metro MK5 baseband and KT kernel having all blessings of KitKat TW but with custom Recovery, root, Bluetooth tethering and the ability to return to 4.2 without any issues AND without Knox for warranty purposes.

FOR THE FIRST REPLY about Knox and 4.4
Worry not about it .
Knox is on 4.3 firmware and above on all Samsungs.
If your on 4.1.2 you've yet to experience it .
"THE PLUS SIDE" of things
KNOX GETS DISABLED with Chainfire superuser once you root and open superuser it prompts to disable knox.
Knox stays present as its own entity in the firmware but doesn't annoy pop up or block apps.
The Chainfire btw.

WARRANTY ASPECT :

This goes With My method to get 4.4.2 or even anytime you Use odin on 4.3 and above for any reason period.

Samsung direct repair warranty Yes warranty issue probably so:
HERE IS WHY:
Warranty will be voided with Samsung direct if you ever try for a Samsung warranty.
But then again...whoever uses Manufacture warranty, Most use the better alternative.

Assurant warranty
OR
Metro Guard coverage
Which = No hassle.

I know these things cause I Work for metro and Personally follow here and Xda for quite some time, on top of Knowing a lot about the customer service and warranty side of things hands on.
I've done all these things .

The reason is is cause Samsung will and does Normally scope out whats been done to your device PRIOR to warranting you a repair or replacement and will see the whole Knox counter crap...tripped..and every Odin flash attempt. Or another words anytime you use Odin to Flash even stock firmware back to 4.3 since 4.3 released they Made it to where you blow the Efuse..In Odin every time u use odin it doesn't allow downgrade anymore everyone knows that since 4.3
You muse stay on whatever you Updated to .

5$ Metro guard warranty
No !!! your probably safe if history proves to be right Metro is sloppy and careless with there warranty returns Quite pleasing for the average customer .

Metro just wants there deductible paid they send you the new phone .Next morning even before you send in the old one .
They don't check anything prior or after the phones go back for refurbishment
Or if claimed stolen you send nothing back at all..

It's safe to say anyone is fine if you have metro guard.

It's all irrelevant to try and avoid knox.. it's gonna be here to stay and the new wave of Samsung firmware .
I know everyone wants to avoid it but to sacrifice being able to root recovery roms... make it your own phone you have to find a sacrifice point.
Just forget about Samsung WARRANTY Repairs.
They always deem your issues Your Own fault from the get go, make you wait ions... for the results and repairs and shipment back and will and do look at knox.. and Odin and what people do.
I say stay with Metro guard warranty Hassle free..
and customize away.

Not to get off topic at all I did here was give everyone a opportunity to Get 4.4.2 Twiz..
And made the sacrifices clear in the instructions.

Now trying to Explain how to not be concerned about if your phone is lost ...breaks ..or stolen
You still are covered with Metro guard.

It boils down to wanting something Now or later .
Yes you can have 4.4.2 now but loose some things as I stated the loss isn't much besides 4.3 roms and recovery for now .
Or like a lot do Stay with what u have 4.1.2 4.2 4.3
And wait for a dev to build a 4.4.2 touchwiz.. Rom
Then you can always flash back and forth to anything under kitkat without officially updating your bootloader .

That should clear up the debate .
Choose how you will@ best of luck guys .

Howdy Papajaka,
I currently have 4.4.2 that is the latest from T-Mobile
I had MetroPCS 4.3 and did not want to wait for Metro to get the update
I installed the T-Mobile firmware 4.3 and tried to update first time it said it was modified so no update then I did a factory reset and tried it and this time it downloaded and installed 4.4.2

So I finally updated to 4.4.2 using this method. My only question is when I I look at my APNs it says Tmobile. Is this okay I am routing all my data through the Tmobile towers and yes I understand that Metro was bought out by them BUT. Will I get charged for using the wrong towers. Or does it not matter.

TLDR Will using TMBLs APNs and not the default MetroPCS APNs get me in trouble or worse make me pay more.

As far as I can tell, it doesn't seem to matter. I cant tell you much about why it doesn't matter or what the differences are between the APNs (if any). However i can tell you that many Metropcs S4 users have flashed the Tmo 4.4 firmware. Members here have been flashing Tmo firmware and roms on their S4's since 4.2 and no one has reported getting charged or are in any trouble as a result. :)

Well firstly thanks for the quick response it makes it a little easier to sleep at night LOL. I guess a little of topic. How do you get Tethering on the phone now. Do I follow a TMBL guide or... And furthermore I looked into it apparently they stopped it with 4.4.2 or something. I dont really know but my question is how do I get tethering to work on this phone.
Edit it is an s4 stock TMBL rom on the m919n model (metroPCS). No root but am willing to root if need be.

This sounds like a good place to start this journey, thanks to Android forums, especially people like a rocker I was able to get the unlimited tether working on my s4 and rooted properly with the restrictions removed I guess from the set id, I figured I was set, especially now that the app Hotspot shield VPN is upgraded to tether the full speed from the signal my device gets I did a speedtest after the upgrade and it was 10mb, well well now, I was cringed because of the s5 camera I installed the beta version and now I am planning on Going from 4.2.2 to whatever is all the rave now I guess it's 4.4 now! Although I am nervous about not being able to root and tether, is there a stock room that is already rooted or maybe someone who has went from 4.2.2 to 4.4 and got free tether working?

does anyone read this thread anymore? i tried to odin a nb4 modem and odin failed , where is the stock rom?

in the tutorial it says,
For now Download and flash m919 UVUEMK2 on your s4.

where is the mk2 file at to flash?

is this a gimmik

Where did you get the NB4 modem? Is the modem alone or has the NON-HLOS too? Is the modem .bin or .tar?
I can't remember well but I'm almost sure Odin flash modems in our GS4 just in one file extension (.tar OR .bin) you need to try both, start with the .tar (squeezing my memory I think is .tar)

If you can get into Download Mode there is always a solution. I recommend you to download the original 4.3 MetroPCS GS4 M919NUVUEMK5 firmware from SamMobile, it's under SGH-M919N and flash it thru Odin. You will get the stock MetroPCS 4.3
