Just went to BJ's to get phone - guy talked me outta it

Guy at BJ's steered me at the Droid by Motorola - said the Incred has a brutal battery - it's nowhere near as well built as the Droid - the 3G radio is sketchy - and the phone isn't built to last.

He bought the Incred and returned and re-activated his Droid. He said over a 4 day clip he got about 5 hours of use then had to re-charge - said it was shocking.

Felt the phone was 1 dimensional;fast and after it's speed was an inferior product.

Said there are only 2 smartphones worth owning: the Droid and IPhone but the ATT Network is a drag(I know) he reallyu hammered the Incred and instead showed me the Droid.

One point he made was how the Incred had no width, they built a 3.7 screen but still too narrow in his opinion.

???

What to do! I left still with my Att and Iphone in hand; dazed and confused.

Now I come here and I see thousands of negatives.

Really wanted this phone :(

This comment would make me question whether or not I should listen to this guy. I own a Droid and love it. With it rooted, ROM'd and overclocked I don't think I would exchange it for an Incredible.

He says the Incredible's screen is too "narrow" at 480x800, but the Droid's screen is 480x854 which is even narrower.

Stock vs stock, I would definitely go with the Incredible.

If you want the Incredible you should get it.

No, he's rights the battery is ABYSMAL. I will have a 100% charge and check back in 10 minutes and have a 92% charge. The LONGEST I have ever had a charge last for this phone is about 5 hours. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the phone but seriously something HAS to be done about the battery. I know people with the DROID and have great battery life. If they can do it with that phone something has to be done for our Incredible.

While the battery is worse than some of the competition it is just as problem for those who like to use their phone heavily. The phone is very well built and while it is narrow it feels amazing in your hand. I would easily recommend this phone as the best Android phone.

I wrote this post using my HTC Droid Incredible

I got 22 hours on my first charge and put it on at 14%

I'd like to know how you got that many hours. Did you turn off GPS, wifi, location etc? I have tried everything I can imagine, turning off apps through "force close" as soon as I'm done using them, turning off GPS, wifi, location etc. using a power management app. I just can't get my battery to last longer than about 4-5 hours.

Yeah i'm betting the droid is paying him alot more due to spiffs the manufacturer puts on them. They need to move old stock. I used to do this all the time with big screen tvs. Sure wanted the one that would only pay me $50 commission, but they ended up leaving with one that paid me $150-300 commission. Thats 2-3 days worth of commissions in one sale to talk one person into going with another tv. I had the spiel down pat. I was even great at selling extended warrantees. If i were you i'd go back and tell him you know what you want and thats all there is to it. If he starts talking bad about it, either ask to speak to someone else or tell him straight up you will leave and buy it elsewhere. He'll shut right the hell up and get you on your way with you new phone. A sale is better than a walkout, thats for sure.

Thats because it wasn't really at 100%. It was most likely at 92% as the last 10% (from 90%-100%) takes 2-3 times as long as charging it from 0% to 90%. What happens is it trickle charges the last 10% to not overcharge the battery. Overcharging a lithium battery is very bad. So when you took your phone off the charger it may have said 100% but trust me when i say it was certainly not at 100%. Then you use it for 10 minutes and notice its down to 92%. I'm almost 100% sure when you took it off the charger the actual charge on it was only 92%. This has been a source of confusion for alot of people. Its common knowledge folks, its like that for every smartphone these days.

thanks - that's disheartening though - I think I have to wait and see if VZW offers a fix - the Eris was never fixed though and people who have that phone love it , except it's dead by lunchtime ....

And the IPhone is bad too I need to recharge by 3PM everyday starting with moderate use at 8am

There is no fix, you need to use the battery as normal and within 5-6 full cycles (meaning if you charge it when its at 50%, thats a 1/2 cycle) to get the full potential out of the battery. Its not that bad, honestly folks, quit complaining about something because others are. Its a non issue.

Um , how is it a NON issue when people are infuriated by it?

I have a Incred too. I got it on the first day, the second day I played with it allll day and the battery was drained extremely quickly (I brought my charger because I foresaw that happening). Today I unplugged it at about 8 this morning and it has between 70-80% battery now. I've used it a fair amount, texting, talking, refreshed email and weather, surfed the web minimally, etc. Basically I've used it today the way I would any other day and it's done fine.

You don't want to base the battery off of your first days use when you're playing with it constantly to discover what it can do, of course it won't last long.

The battery might not be as good as others, and if you're using it instead of a computer all day, it won't last, but if you use it as a phone and turn of GPS and WIFI (which is as easy as one click with one of the great widgets), it will surpass sufficiency.

This is an amazing phone, ignore the guy at the store that's getting paid more to sell you certain products. He's an idiot.

LOL ok fine, i'm done with this issue, from here on out if you want to think the battery is faulty, then by all means go right ahead. Complain all you want, spread it around, maybe eventually it'll become truth. I'm pulling for ya, i really am.

The kid is a troll without common sense - just let him keep his iphone while I hum along for 24 hours on the best phone on the market on the best service in America.

Because its coming from people like yourself with little to no knowledge what-so-ever. Its funny really. A bunch of people with single digit post counts complaining about something the rest of us know better about. Go on continue regergitating what you've read in another thread. Or just take the phone back and move on to another handset. If it was me i'd be furious that they misrepresented the battery claim and stole your hard earned money. I'd go back and demand a refund right now, i wouldn't even wait to finish reading this post.

Yeah i'm done with the battery issue. I love my phone, i just bought insurance for the first time ever on a phone because of it. Oh well. At least i'm covered if something goes go horrible wrong with it the next 2 years. Chances are if i do break my phone i'll get one of these guys return, haha the irony.

I activated my phone, set it up, and have been playing with it, PLUGGED IN WITH THE CHARGER, since the day I got it. I figure, its just like a new car; you don't rev it to red line or push it to it's limit the day you get it off the lot. You're nice to it for the first couple of hundred miles.

I've been playing with it for the past 5 hours today, off the charger, and it's still has full charge.

Keeping it plugged in for three days straight sure has it's benefits. ;)
