Here's what we know so far:

Snapdragon 805 processor @2.5 GHz
5.5" QHD Screen (Super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors)
I've also read 5.0" screen (unlikely)
3 GB Ram
Internal Storage: 16 GB
WATERPROOF
High speed Cat. 6 LTE radio
Up to 128 GB SD card storage
16 MP UltraPixel rear camera with depth sensor (updated by EarlyMon, TY) Link to Early's Post
Composite of aluminium and liquid silicone!
"One of the probable selling points of HTC M8 Prime is the metal casing of the handset. The new handset will not pack an aluminum casing but a composite of the metal with liquid silicone which offers more benefits than aluminum such as better durability, higher thermal conductivity and cost-effective production."
Android 4.4.3, some leaks report Android 4.5
Reports claimed that HTC M8 Prime will pack the next generation of Android OS dubbed as 4.5 Lollipop. What is Lollipop?
Sense 6.5
(Release date 3rd Quarter (Anytime June through October?))
Rumors indicate 3rd quarter if it is a One Max update, but as soon as June (unlikely) if it is an LG G3 competitor.

And I wouldn't mind storage above 16 GB.

I suppose it's not *essential* as I've been happy with 16 GB + 64 GB SD card for two years.

I lose my 23 GB Dropbox freebie this month. I wonder if I'd get it back with the M8'?

A ' means prime in math btw, so that's what I'm calling it from now on, the M8'.

I'm looking at the G3 myself but the more I see here, the more this looks like the one for me.

I'm sorry to see the 3 capacitive buttons go, but I think that I can live with it on a 5.5" display.

Before anyone says that they don't take up space really, I added a mod to include them on my 4.7" LTEvo and tried them for a month and oh yes they do too.

As for physical buttons no longer being supported, something I've been told for 2 years, last I checked, it's just an on/off switch in a configuration file.

Anyway, I intend to root and immediately install essential mods -

Check out "Ultimate Dynamic Navbar"

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mrbimc.udn

Check out "SDFix: KitKat Writable MicroSD"

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix

The last one might not be necessary, but probably will be.

You'll want to bookmark that one. Seriously.

Haven't rooted in ages, but, been considering it w/the M8,& more so now after seeing the ULTIMATE DYNAMIC NAVBAR app.

THX for cluing us in on this gem EarlyMon.:thumb:

I'm guessing it's gonna be a while after the G3 &/or OnePlus One(64GB) is out before we see the M8 Prime,so,basically,it'll boil down to which one of the former two become available 1st,w/an eye towards the future w/the M8 Prime for myself.
Assuming availability for all carriers, that is.

Rooting an HTC is a piece of cake.

My 3-day weekend starts tomorrow, may just do it.Been reading up a bit on the subject, sounds easy enough to restore to out-of-box condition. (For JUMP purposes, although T-Mo hasn't even looked at my 1st 2 for signs, just for factory new/out-of box/no personal data/etc..)

Back to sorta on topic, hadn't really felt the root need until the on-screen buttons w/the M8.
On the FLEX,the option to choose which apps have retractable on-screen buttons is baked-in (SCHWEET!),would like to see that option on all HTC's.

I'm guessing a mid Q3 release for the M8 Prime,to beat/match the NOTE4 out of the gate,akin to the M8/S5 releases & avoiding cannibalizing M8 sales.

Another long wait.............:bawling:

Waiting on G3 announcement tomorrow but I'm so flaky I change my mind everyday! 16gb is a slight disappointment, for all intents and purposes I'm really waiting on the Note 4 forum to pop up because that's the phone I want. I've made up my mind,... really, ....for real!
The anticipation and leaks are totally intoxicating so I'll just read all the wonderful knowledgeable posts.

I like your decisive process - in fact, I love it! It's ok. Well, you know. I mean it could be better. Actually though, I love it! (K, that's pretty obvious yeah. :))

I still like the S-Pen, keep looking at the Note, keep getting pulled away. :D

Honestly, I hate rooting Samsungs. I've done quite a few. I just don't like it at all. That's just me though.

Off topic for one minute..
Do you think there will ever be a phone you won't want to root?

I've already owed it (more precisely, WifelyMon did but in the evening, we'd pick up whichever to use).

The HTC EVO Shift 4G.

Fabulous device. Great looking screen (iPhone sized so that was easy), excellent slider (want screen real estate? don't get a bigger screen, get a slider), long lasting battery like crazy, it just worked. Took a swim in a muddy river - no hard to reach places inside for drainage - perfect. Dropped so many times the speaker grill crimped shut and only then started to lose voice quality.

I picked it up every week for 18 months or more to root it - and just put it back down. You don't mess with perfection.

It still works btw. :)

But otherwise, I won't use Windows without administrator access, I won't use OS X or Linux without setting a root password, and I won't use an Android without root - for the exact same reasons as the others. :) ;)

Ok, so the LG G3 event is over. No idea what variations will be offered here or when.

Whatever.

But one thing is clear from the comments - the sad state of root and the acceptance of it.

It reminds me of chatting with Steven in 2010, lurking in the DX root forums and then saying to him, "No. Wait. You are not doing all that to maintain root. You're kidding."

And his response - "Locked bootloader."

Steven, remember your robot in jail avatar? I do.

The M8' is going to have to suck as much as the G3 soars for me to change my mind from the obvious choice.

What sucks is I can't even say that being a VZW customer. I'm sure HTC Dev will once again be rendered useless. Hope for yet another 3rd party solution I suppose.

Go with another carrier? No, not really. I'm one of those trapped souls who has one obvious choice for a carrier if I want a working phone in my travels. Its big and its red.

Someday I'll die.

If the family has money, I'll get a monument.

Because I won't be around, they'll all be free to list the things I got wrong in life.

Given sufficient cash, it's going to be a really tall monument to fit the long list.

But missing from the list will be this -

"Endured crappy phones and crappy rooting experiences because his carrier wouldn't let him choose otherwise and he stayed with them because he thought they were the best, for whatever reason."

That is all.
