Biggest Annoyance with S5

i came from a phone that didnt have a home button to wake the phone.. HTC One.. it is much nicer to be able to wake the phone with the home button.. however.. it is to easy to screw up in your pocket... in my pocket.. my phone will wake and screens will move.. or.. icons will move.. apps will open from widgets..

thats my only complaint.. other than the touchwiz not being able to be modified..

I stopped all of that by making the Lockscreen require a Draw Pattern to unlock.

That worst that can happen is the screen lights up a few seconds and then blacks out again.

Folder icons = UGLY (with out a launcher)
The missing ability to move the app drawer (with out a launcher)
Notification badges, the need for them disappeared in 2008 when android came out with the notification bar..
Widgets not being in the app drawer when you slide past all of your apps
The lack of a wireless charging back cover included

Those are mine that I remember

I am a new user to android and obviously the S5, but I LOVE the OS and the phone, with that being said, the dialer is a little annoying, but my biggest gripe (and prob a silly one) is I am not fond of the tiny signal bars. I am used to the dots of iOS, but even then, my wife has the G2 and love those bars. I Am assuming there is no way of changing them w/o being rooted? Thanks everyone...GREAT forums!

Of those listed, the only one that I view as remotely important is all phones should have wireless charging capability.

The other things you mention are merely personal preferences.
As such, none of them bother me, in fact, The App Drawer (block of grid dots) is exactly where it belongs IMO. Why, it should be out of the way and Always in the Same Place.

YMMV but that is life.

Like they did with the S5, the selling gimmick was the waterproofing & heart monitor as a selling point, on the next "Latest Great Thing, Samsung Galaxy ?" they will include wireless charging along with aluminum chassis to compete with the iPhone (iPhone is gonna go with a 5" screen with their latest model)... as for me, I can live without it just fine.

I'm just guessing folks...

Guess I was behind the door when those "important points" were deemed important.

I turned OFF S Health as useless for me, and it uses way too much battery.

Also, the "water proofing?" More gimmick than reality. I view it as not that much different than my Galaxy S which is "splash resistant", although it would not survive a dip in a glass of water. Actually it would, if it were just a short dip and the battery jerked fast, and then put the phone in a vacuum chamber as I do all phones that get damp.

A mechanic's vacuum pump is a great tool to have on hand. If one has a habit of being around water with their phones, I suggest getting a vacuum pump, a gallon glass jar with a metal lid that has a rubber seal.

Solder a brass fitting to the lid that fits a rubber hose, that connects to the vacuum pump.

Wallah! Emergency Rescue for a damp phone.

26 inches of vacuum for an hour will dry just about anything. It even sucks the oil out of a car's air conditioning system!

The title of the thread is biggest annoyances with the s5, does not say important, what is important to one may not be of importance to another

Many people want a phone that is aesthetically pleasing, I am one of those. So my personal preferences are important to myself, and who knows, possibly others as well

A very big annoyance for me is that the phone starts all the time while sitting in my pocket. I had an s2 for the past 3 years in my jeans pocket without any protection or flap around it, without this annoyance. The home button on the S5 sticks out to much and it starts the phone all the time. When it rubs than to the inside of my pocket lining, it messes up the phone. :( Does any one know how to stop the phone from waking up with the home button ?

I've got around the problem by using a pin code to unlock, bit of a pita but works

The pastel colors for the phone and messages drive me nuts. I know there are other launchers and message apps but untill i figure how to get hose downloaded and running right im stuck with these ugly colors.

When I select previous calls, i can't just call whoever is listed. I have to click on it, then click on the very tiny phone icon, to bring up another window with a larger phone icon for me to finally call someone.

The home button, if i click it it says to use touchwiz home easy or touchwiz, wtf are these?

Did you know you can just click whoever is listed and then put the phone to your ear and it will automatically dial for you? I find it useful, but I think it would be nice to have the option to just click and call right away. My old HTC Rezound does that.

Are you aware that IF you are viewing your Favorites List and you touch the a name in that list, that the S5 will auto-dial that person "right now".

My son a couple days ago sent me a message that my phone was "butt dialing him"...

It wasn't, what was happening was I was selecting his name from the favorites list and then editing the picture for his contact.

I also had it happen a few other times, for exactly the same reason. I had put some of my co-workers in my Favorite list and then I selected them and then touched their picture. It auto-dialed them twice. 1st when I pulled them out of the favorites list, and then when I touched their "photo".

If you want to edit photos, etc.... make sure you do it from the Contacts List or you will get a lot of "butt calling" complaints.

I solved my problem of unintentional waking up the phone by the home button being squeezed in my jeans pocket in this ... acceptable way:

By gluing 2 little elevated plastic squares left and right from the home button.

Kinda ruined the looks of the phone.

Mine is set up to if the button is pushed the screen comes on, but can't go anywhere until I swipe it to the right. If I don't swipe it, it turns off in 15 seconds.

Yes, that's almost ok, except that when it wakes up the phone, the screen is briefly turned on and that drains the battery. Also, than I hear the lock-screen touch sound: poing poing... in my pocket ... enervating ! Buying a wider looser jeans should also cure the problem ...haha

Your setup drains the battery more. ;)
Simply turn off the sound and set vibration for email & text only.

2 main annoyances.

1. the usb port 'cover' - I know necessary for IP67 and all but a slight hassle to open and shut every day. I hear some people are removing it.
2. No Samsung 'dock dashboard app', which I suspect they removed because they assumed with the usb port cover not many people would be docking the device. I use Dock Clock Plus which is an awesome app that is highly customizable enabling me to use my S5 as an alarm clock with weather widget visible on my night stand at night when I 'retire'.

STILL having trouble with the phone nor remembering anything! Doesn't seem to be related to updates or reboots (though that wasn't an issue on my S3), but the phone just won't remember default apps. I have to constantly tell it my phone is how I want to call out. And it's not universal or related to stock apps. It never wants to ask if I want K9 to check my mail vs stock.

The camera has a mind of it's own and I really want my S4 back if this is how it's going to behave.

Just like my S2, also this S5 has the annoying habit to set itself to a low resolution of 6Megapixels. So I keep resetting it to 16M. It can be related to the Panorama mode or the zoom function. I haven't figured it out yet, but i should appreciate that Android made a function to LOCK the camera resolution to maximum. I know that while zooming the resolution goes down. But I have this problem all the time at NO zoom and I never manually lower the resolution.
I am not saying that the S5 is a bad phone, but I would appreciate that Android and Samsung use this feedback to improve the software in further updates.
