Screen viewing under direct sunlight no worse than other phones!

I dont know what people are talking about how AMOLED screens are hard to view under direct sunlight. Its a crystal clear sunny day here and I have just tested my Incredible against my former phone the Droid Eris, and my ipod Touch. I see NO difference in readability. The Incredible was no way worse in viewing under direct sunlight.

The question is....who came up with this misinformation about AMOLED screens????

I agree with this, I was using a Moto Droid before the Incredible and its not much, if any worse than the Droid.

I have no problem either.

It was the Apple police. They have little boys go undercover and write false reviews and posts because any time someone has better technology they need to find a false reason for it to be worse.

I highly recommend you guys try for yourselves a direct side by side comparison against other phones in direct sunlight. Just make sure screen brightness is all the way up on all units. There is absolutely no difference between the different technologies (LCD and AMOLED).

after 17 months with the omnia (lcd), i can say that the incredible screen is much easier to see than that pos.

I love how someone can't post a negative about the phone. Why would I want to turn the screen all the way up every time I;m in direct brightness. That's not how I use a phone. I've got a iphone and thinking about switching to the incredible. The iphone can be seen perfectly in direct sun without changing the brightness. Having to up the brightness on a already weak battery is not a solution. In all seriousness, it's not even worth responding to you.

I agree very, very strongly with this as well. I was afraid because of all the bs about the amoled screens. But coming from an Env Touch, the Incredible is actually easier to see in direct sunlight... Heck, I can actually see it in direct sunlight. the Env Touch I'd have to do the whole tunnel the screen with my hands to view it. This Dinc is no problem at all, loving it.

Well, all I can say is I just upgraded to this phone from a Blackberry Storm. I hadn't read any of the complaints against the screen in directly sunlight prior to today, so I didn't know others were having issues.

While I was out at my sons soccer game this morning I could barely see the screen, and I've got the brightness to at least 90%. In fact, I wanted to take a few photos but had trouble composing the shot. With my Storm I never once had a problem.

Just my 2 cents.

Auto adjusting brightness is known to increase battery drain. One of the first tips in these forums is to turn it off if you are concerned about your phone's battery life.

At a manual brightness setting of about 1/3, my Eris is brighter than my Incredible at 1/3 brightness outdoors in fairly direct light.

Actually, I need to turn the brightness all the way on the Incredible, but 1/3 brightness is usually good enough outdoors with the Eris.

I've got to imagine there is some trade-off there..

I can testify, yesterday when walking to classes i had my incredible out doing stuff and i was like "wtf this isn't any worse than any other phone" at that moment the sun was behind me. and then i pulled out my blackberry and i could see the screen alot more better than the incredibles, but i didn't think the incredible was any worse than any other phone before i pulled it out. totaly fine no problem viewing it BUT when i was walking to another class when the sun was in front of or above me The screen is REALLY hard to view, where i had to use my other hand to shadow the screen so i could see.
So moral of the story always walked away from the sun if you want to be able to see your screen, don't walk towards the sunset

i do find it a little hard to read in the sun and twisting and turning the phone and squinting my eyes to try to read it. HOWEVER, i have had the eris(junk imo) and it was much worst in the sunlight, couldnt even read the screen

A lot of that stuff regarding software problems will not apply, but most of the numbers as far as brightness and contrast and the number of sub pixels in the PenTile pixel arrangement will.

Not really, Incredible uses a superior touch sensor from maxTouch. It does not have any of the issues the Nexus One has with its Clearpad sensor and it offers superior response and sensitivity.

I never said the Incredible was a Nexus One. You can ignore all the stuff about the gallery, and I don't think they mention the touch screen which I know has problems on the Nexus One and is totally different and much better on the Incredible.

I just thought maybe you wanted some actual data taken from the very same AMOLED panel that is in your phone. I even qualified it by saying that the color balance may be different . As far as contrast ratios, black levels, absolute brightness, power consumption, pixel density etc etc that data is all valid for the Incredible as well.
