LG Volt now available

I got to that thread from this one. Didn't even realize it was in the F90 forum. Everyone is calling it that though, so I'm not going to try to change the Internet's mind. I just didn't want him expecting the exact same thing as the F90.

Chances are it could be the same thing right now you are using a universal guide from a a year or two back combination with a recent list from the L series... You are on the right track it seems

All flagships are around that price when they come out. The S3 was, and I just bought it for $220. I highly doubt the S5 will still be $600 in 2 years, probably 300, MAYBE 400. The price will drop significantly, especially if Virgin continues to get top of the line phones quickly.

I guess you don't know how the world works, then. Companies always sell products for a huge markup of what the materials actually cost. (Ex. a t-shirt costs about $3 to make, yet you pay $20-40) It sucks, but that's how it works. No one actually thinks Samsung is barely eeking out a profit on their devices. $600+ is the going rate for a brand new flagship phone, and is actually lower than it has been in years past. You can go on contract and pay "$199" and pay $100 a month and end up paying for the phone multiple times, or you can plunk down $600 up front on VM and only pay $35 a month for a plan I've not seen any other company even come close to competing with.

got moto g for $49 at best buy. Verizon prepaid is $45 minimum, but coverage is way greater than sprint. Using it on wifi for the moment, future as secondary phone. Still, beats shelling out $600 for a phone. You can buy a lot of other stuff like gas or food with that money.

$45/mo for only 500mb of data. Granted it comes with unlimited talk, but I've only ever come within 50-100 minutes of my 300 two or three times, so that doesn't matter to me. Plus, the Verizon prepaid cycle is only 30 days instead of "per month". Now if it was $45 for unlimited data and messaging and 500 minutes, I'd say that competes with VM. I don't care about Verizon's "superior" coverage because I generally get very good service on Sprint's network, especially now that I have access to 4g, so it's not worth any extra money to switch based on what coverage maps and commercials say. To each their own, but Virgin's plans and service are still the best deal I've seen.

Also, I just looked at Verizon's pathetic lineup of phones available for their prepaid service...What a joke...no thanks.

All are valid points. But, even the evil red empire is not immune to competition. Plus, it still makes a good mini-tablet on wi-fi. I don't have to activate it until they offer a better plan. By law, even unactivated phones can make emergency calls. So, you can keep it in the car for when travelling. Then, the ability to get a signal in remote areas makes it better than prepaid sprint or tmobile.

to bg4m3r Thanks that worked. How many more of these hidden gems are there.

Now need to get usb INTERNET working.....

The app I used to use :Auto USB Tethering by MetaCtrl on my Warp does not seem to be available for the Volt

(UNLESS THERE IS SOME SORT OF AUTO USB BUILT IN TO KIT KAT OR LG VOLT)

---------------------------------
I have managed to get a limited version of usb tether running using:
Easy Tether Lite (No root) by Mobile Stream

However this requires that driver be run on native pc...and I believe up time is limited on free version of app.

Iram, you already said you found a USB tethering app. There's nothing to fix. You have to pay for any tethering or hotspot service, either pay for the app you mentioned, or pay Boost for tethering service and use a free app that uses that service. That our wait until we get root figured out and use a hacked app.

Is that root method working for the volt?
I am using a Mac to attempt to root my Boost Mobile LG Volt.

I downloaded the kk_root.zip file that the root method purports...

The instructions are to use adb to "adb reboot recovery"

This loads the LG stock recovery. From that menu, the directions say to choose "apply update from ADB"

When I choose that, the screen says to "adb sideload <file>"...

When I attempt to "adb sideload kk_root.zip", the computer says: "error: device not found"

Other instructions say to get a microSD card, format it with ext2 filesystem, and copy the kk_root.zip file to that.

Then one can select the "apply update from external sdcard" option.

When I attempt that, I'm able to choose the kk_root.zip file, and I get the following:

Any ideas???

Some articles I have read seem to suggest that usb tethering for internet was available on previous versions of android but have been blocked in kitkat version.

My son just tried with his phone a nexus running native android kitkat (no root) he has usb tether capability so Im inclined to beleive it kis a function that is being block either by LG or Boost or both.

Now while I seem to be able to get this app Easytether it needs to download a driver to the pc to work:

LGUnitedMobileDriver_S4981MAN38AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.8.1(0)_4.9.8.1

So far this is the only app I have found that appears to work though I think it has a time limit for data in the free version.

Hope fully when those working very hard on it can find a way to root phone the usb function can be opened up in the system

Those are the problems we're dealing with. Everything you've mentioned has been discussed already. The device becomes unknown and loses its hardware ID in sideload mode, so that is not an option. All update zips, signed or not, have failed verification. The phone does retain hardware ID in download mode, so or best bet is to do something through there, either by manually adding the ID to the drivers, or using Linux.

Please stop, you keep saying the same thing over and over. That driver is going to be required for ANY USB tethering. It is the PC driver for LG phones. Your son has a different brand phone, so yes, it might well have integrated tethering. As I've said repeatedly, the Volt has Bluetooth tethering. You can install an app for USB tethering, as you've discovered. Just pay the $10 for the full version of Easytether, or quietly wait until we figure out root (which may not be possible) and find a free hacked app that will bypass Boost network restrictions. You are going to need an app either way, and root may not be an option for this phone.
