Rooting Question

So im looking to get the behold 2 with my tmobile plan upgrade within 2 weeks. And thank god i found this website. I heard and have read countless facts that the behold 2 android stock sucks and is slow and sluggish. But i have a few questions. I am familiar with rooting ect. But is the 1.6 version of android that i can root onto my phone the standard version of android without all the crap? And if 2.1 eventually comes to the behold 2 will i be able to revert back to the stock and update from there to 2.1 or whatever comes out. Also i see i loose the vibrate feature if i root, is this true? What else do i gain from this 1.6 root and loose, and is it worth doing, or will i loose nice features the stock had to come with?

Thanks

you can change the UI without rooting and see a noticeable improvement.

i went from stock UI to Panda Home and things have improved. Its more
responsive, etc. But some lag still remains. I'm not sure you'll ever be able
to remove all lag, as the Behold lacks a Snapdragon processor.

Woah hold on now just because it doesn't have a 1ghz(or is it mhz?) processor doesn't mean its going to be laggy always its just a matter of utilizing the phone to where it works that why we install Custom ROMs it makes it faster, better, smoother and so on Root just gives us extensive permission to modify the phone.

Then what is with the rom 1.6 versions and ect? Dont they remove all thec rap samsung put on it making it a fresh install of android? And how exactly does pandahome make it better does it add or remove anything or just makes it all better?

Yes, depending on which one you install of course. I would advise doing a Custom ROM if you want the best out of your behold 2. Preferably WarHeads 1.6 Rom. and then update the kernel so that you can get rid of most of the force closes. PandaHome doesn't do much but replace touchwiz launcher so that you can have more customizable home screens... doesn't do much for performance or upgrading to android 1.6. Without a Custom Rom you are stuck at android 1.5 of which new apps usually aren't being made to support.

Should i get the one with twiz or not? Is twiz worth it and what exactly does it give?

TWiz Rom - is what you have now except the Twiz Custom Rom upgrades to Android 1.6 along with making better performance.

Galaxy Rom - you might not get Vibrate working but I have heard from BH_Man that Galaxy Rom R9 will have it. Extremely well battery life, completely stock android.

If you go with Galaxy I would advise waiting for BH_Man to update the post with R9 basically Galaxy Rom is the behold 2 absolutely without anything twiz.

No twiz Roms- removes twiz launcher and has the same significant amount of battery life as Galaxy Rom but I do believe Galaxy Rom has much much better battery life from my personal experience, I use this one because I like the camera that the Behold 2 comes with originally and the styling of touchwiz. the cube button is remapped to searching the internet.

If you go with the No TWiz 1.6 Rom I do suggest Warheads because its the most up to date.

Hybrid Roms - Gives the best of Twiz and Galaxy Rom. I have not personally tried the 1.6 Hybrid Rom yet but soon will be upgrading to that Rom just to stay current and see how it is.

Can you send me a link to the best rom? What about this one http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-behold-2/54769-port-galaxy-1-6-behold-2-a.html but i heard it doesnt have vibrate?

Also if and when android 2.1 comes out for behold 2, will i be able to revolt to the old os, and update from there as if i never changed anything like it was stock.

And yes when an update comes out for Behold 2 you can easily ODIN back to how it was when you first bought it. The Twiz Rom and No Twiz Rom may be capable of receiving updates though... I'm not 100% sure on if they could but I do believe they can receive it, just not galaxy Rom though because thats basically from a different phone.

Okay thanks a bunch! And putting it back to stock i would just have to download the stock rom and odin it back right? Also the 1.6 notwiz is just the standard 1.6 donut android am i correct?

So is the notwiz 1.6 rom basically just the standard android 1.6?

Notwiz is just standard of what you have now except without the 3 home screens we originally have (twiz launcher). So yeah basically its just upgrading to 1.6 and removing the 3 home screens and replaces it with advanced launcher( a home replacement app that allows much more home screens without being laggy)

Ah alright, is there a way to put just the standard 1.6 or whatever on the behold 2? And so i assume the 1.6 notwiz makes everything much faster including web browsing? And browsing through the menus ect. right? Thanks for helping im just curious before i do this and get the phone from all the research ive done.

Yes and Notwiz is twiz mixed with stock android 1.6. Just removes certain thing s that are towiz but it doesn't remove "everything" twiz like for example the camera app will be the same one you have now.

Galaxy Rom is the absolute complete stock android 1.6 experience

Ah ok thanks for all the info, one last question if i may ask. Is the notwiz fully functional at this point without any bugs and no lag? And if i choose to do galaxy will the performance be ever faster than that of notwiz 1.6 and is vibrate really not functional at this point with the galaxy?

Yes, it makes everything faster except for web browsing, for faster web browsing I advise using opera mini 5, its absolutely fast and c an be downloaded from the market. Yeah no problem always glad to help.

and by standard you mean absolutely everything twiz absolutely gone? then you want Galaxy Rom

If you like your phone how it is now just with 1.6 and much faster

Notwiz Rom

Notwiz still has its bug but most are solved by updating the kernel, I normally get only force closes upon start up then everything else is fine for me.

Yes the galaxy rom will be much faster and better performance wise than twiz or notwiz. And yes as far as I know vibrate is the only bug galaxy has, there are no force closes or anything else otherwise.

Alright from all you have told me im thinking of the http://androidforums.com/all-things...ld-2-1-6-no-twiz-w-busybox-rooted-kernel.html and http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-behold-2/54769-port-galaxy-1-6-behold-2-a.html once it had vibrate. Does the camera performance suffer if i use stock android galaxy rom? Or everything will work just as good as it would on notwiz. Im thinking anroid 1.6 stock would be nicer right now especially when he fixes the vibrate!

Everything will work just as good as notwiz but you won't get the same features for the camera though. In my personal opinion BH2's stock camera app is the best one out of any app for android. Camera performance will not suffer though. It will be the same 5megapixel camera just not the same features.

And yeah definitely galaxy Rom would be absolutely great with the vibrate working.

Alright man thanks! You really helped me decide on what to get. So i guess ill try between the notwiz and galaxy and see what i like.

Also what did you mean earlier that notwiz
I normally get only force closes upon start up then everything else is fine for me.
as you said?

Oh i read somewhere you cant odin twice?

On the notwiz thread it says

ONLY FLASH BOOT / PHONE Once.... Once Flashed You Only Have to Flash the PDA File if doing a Restore, Never flash the Phone & Boot file more than Once!!!!!!
What does he mean by that? That i cant flash to another version?

I mean like it will pop up with a message saying its not responding asking you what do you want to do upon start up but its not much once you flash the updated kernel and you can do that after because the updated kernel is just in another post.

It means you can't flash bootloader option and phone option twice, you only need to do that once. You can absolutely flash another version. To flash different versions we only load Ops and PDA.

but when you do warheads its like your are flashing it twice

once with the ops file always, bootloader and pda

then after it says pass then it

ops file again, phone and pda

then wait till that finishes by it saying pass.

then you are done loading warheads but you want to fix the mess of force closes this rom will have by updating the kernel.

Its in another post about an updated kernel.

You would then just load ops and pda and you don't need to back up your apps on this one because its only the kernel.

You can't ODIN twice with boot and phone options

If you decide for another rom all you do is load the Ops and PDA.
