Is there a correct way to Backup data and Apps?

I do not see any provided way to do Data and Application and UI backups.

Is there something I missed?

I am use to the blackberry which allows for backup of everything in case you lose or kill your phone.

I see you can buy RerWare MyBackup and MyBackup Pro. Does it do the job?

Any other better free tools?

Astro file manager from market, its free and works great.

I believe that will copy some files but not everything to do a proper restore if you lost your phone or have to rebuild it. does it?

I see that some file/directories are marked PRIVATE and do not copy with the BACKUP option in Astro file manager with the MENU-TOOLS-BACKUP and select your APPS and BACKUP.

I do not see an option for BACKING up any DATA on the phone just APPS.

Am I missing something?

MyBackup doe both Data and Apps and give the choice or going to your sdcard or over the internet to their disk farm.

I guess whatever you get copied to the sdcard "backups" directory you can also plug the USB cable into your PC and copy that off for safe keeping in case you lose your sdcard with the phone. Good chance of that!

ReWare MyBackups puts their Apps and Data backups in folders under a comon directory so they are easy to copy off to a PC later as a second backup.

But niether tools backups copies off the customer ringtones or other things that you will be missing if the phone fails.

I would like a complete backup that I could restore on a new phone and get it back to my existing setup. Like you can do with Blackberry Desktop Manager.

Any tools like that?

My backup pro... does not work well with the incredible yet... it works some what. But wont work if you dont have an sd card installed.

Also if you backup contacts and restore them it corrupts your contact card and it gets stuck on loading...expect a update to the program soon as they are going through the changes in beta updates....so we will see a fix soon.

As for rings tones etc...back em up to your pc etc

This could be one of the most productive posts I have ever witnessed on the Internet. Thanks for helping the OP out.

I have been wondering the same thing as user about backups. That is one thing that I loved about BB was able to switch between phones if it went down very easily.

I will have to look at My Backup. I loaded the 30-day trial version to see what it will/will not do. Didn't know, however, that it wasn't playing well with the DI...

Yeah it only backs up if you have an sd card cardo installed.new verison allows internal memory as well. And dont import contacts with the program...every time you view your own personal contact card...it will get stuck on loading...the developer is aware of the issue and is working on them.

And a few other things it has trouble backing up...but all is being addressed for the incredible..but good piece of software.

Is there anyway to fix the corrupt contact card or do we have to wait for the app to be fixed?

Astro is great , I use it and incase you lose your phone just take the backup folder from astro and copy it to your computer.

I had a few programs on my Eris that aren't offered in the marketplace on the Incredible (maybe they just got removed completely) but it was nice being able to reinstall them on my Incredible

I use MyBackup Pro. It backed up everything on my Sprint Hero. I don't use it to backup my Contacts or Calendar since I have an Exchange account. I used my last Sprint Hero backup file to restore to my Incredible. I did not attempt to restore the Home Screens, settings, apps or dictionary. Everything restored perfectly except for the alarms.

When I ran my first backup on the Incredible and looked at the backup log, I noticed that the backup of the home screens and alarms failed. I emailed the developers of the application about what my backup logs showed and they replied back saying that they are working on getting the application to work on the Incredible.
