GS4 replaced by Asurian and after a few days, the screen would freeze & be unresponsive requiring a restart of the phone (hold power button - restart). Same apps & setup on the replacement phone as the original phone. Store ordered a replacement for the replacement, and on the second day, same thing with screen freezing; again same apps & setup as original phone.

Any thoughts as to the cause and how to fix the problem? (Store ordered another replacement - probably another refurb unit.)

Hi smitty543!

The first thing to ascertain is whether it is the handset, the firmware or your apps and settings that is causing the problem on 2 different handsets. A handy way to do this is using Safe Mode as described in #1.1 of Update Problems - Dummies Guide.

Since the screen freezes only occurs sporadically (sometimes several times a day and none other days), should phone be left in safe mode? If so, is there access to phone directory to be able to obtain phone numbers, etc.

As per the link...

Safe Mode on your phone is roughly the same as on you PC. It will boot your phone up and load only the default apps that came with the firmware. It does not install your own downloaded apps.

Therefore it will run all the default apps that came with the firmware but not any user apps. Stock Contacts, Dialler, email, Messaging, etc: are not affected.

Well, it deja vu all over again. Wife's GS4 periodically freezes requiring long press of power button and restart. It only happens avery few days and there does not seen to be a pattern, i.e., no specific activity seems to provoke the freezes. I purchases and installed a new Class 10 SD card since was told that a defective card might cause the behavior - the old card was only a few weeks old. (This phone has less apps than the original phone that was replaced due for a cracked screen, and the original phone never froze.)

Any thoughts? All help GREATLY appreciated. This is quite frustrating.

Since the problem only occurs every 2-4 (or more) days, will 'safe mode' be of assistance trying to identify the culprit? Should we leave the phone in safe mode for a week or so to be sure that the problem does not recur without the owner installed apps? If no problems while in safe mode, I guess then remove all installed apps and then slowly reinstall them?
