LG G3 Pre-release/Rumor/Speculation Thread

AT&T Friday. If you buy a LG G3 they will sell you a LG G watch for %50 off.

Now I was waiting for the moto360. But a G watch for $110 is too hard to pass up.

That's a pretty darn good deal. I already pre-ordered the G Watch, but maybe I'll have to return and then re-purchase, if the other providers end up offering a similar discount deal.

(This isn't meant to be snarky, I'm genuinely curious)... help me understand these watches? Are they basically just a quick view of whats in your pocket? or do they do other things?

At its most simple, yes. Its a way to get information on the go without having to pull your phone out of your pocket all the time.
Text, tweets, mail, basically all your notifications will go to your watch. If apps have android wear functionality, you can also reply or take actions.

And of course all your google now stuff is there, from your cards, using voice to get directions, navigate, hangouts ect.

Or if it is easier, think of it as google glass, but the screen is on your wrist, not in front of your eyes (no camera or video though).

Jury is still out on how much functionality android wear will have, but in essence, the simple answer is you are correct about it being a quick view of what would show up on the phone, without having to pull the phone out of your pocket or wherever each individual would store their device. Android Wear is based on Google now, so we will see what 3rd party developers come up with.

The original Galaxy Gear, which I currently have, was originally android. I haven't updated, simply because I don't want to switch to Tizen and plan on rooting the gear, to get even more functionality out of it. There are some videos on YouTube where folks are running nova launcher.

Sounds interesting... but probably in the pass category for me.

why do i need a smartwatch?

Yeah, after having the Gear, I wouldn't say a smartwatch is a "necessity," but I definitely enjoy having it. It's somewhere between gimmick and useful, for me. Biggest advantage for me, is during meetings, where an email might come in that I need to see right away, but can't really pull out my phone to interrupt. Other times it's been useful, in a movie theater, or at a performance, where it's less obtrusive to check a message that comes in over pulling out my phone.

I'm holding out for the 360. I haven't worn a watch in 15 years or so. When I saw the 360..I wanted it. That thing is sexy as hell.

360 will definitely be a pre-order for me. The G Watch is actually a belated mother's day gift, for my Mom, so if there is some sort of deal for the phone and the watch (which will save me money), then I'm all for it. We'll just see if Best Buy offers any deals, as I already have some certificates ready to use.

I agree.

It seems to involve some idea where your phone is not in your hand all of the time.

It's funny you should say that. On the MyFitnessPal website (food logging, calorie tracking, etc. - and there are forums) someone was asking for advice on an app or device to track steps. One guy mentioned that using an app on his phone was a bad idea because in order for it to be accurate, it meant your phone had to be on your person... which.. when I'm working out, biking, walking, etc... mine IS so I fail to understand why it won't work for him! :D

Oh, I am so getting the moto 360 when it comes out. But for only $115 I'm going to give the G Watch a go. I can always resale it. Or keep it as a casual smart watch (working out, sports, yard work). And keep the moto 360 with metal band is more of a dress watch (office and such).

Except it isn't "on" all the time. Why do I want a display "off" watch that you have to push a button or swipe to see? Seems silly to me. The whole purpose of a watch is to turn your wrist and see the time at a glance. If I have to start pushing buttons and swiping, I might as well get out my phone.

Agree.

I haven't worn a watch for 25 years and I am not about to start wearing it again.

To me this thing is useless.

i like wrist freedom. no watches.

I typically don't wear watches, unless it's a special occasion and I wear my luxury watch...That was, until I bought the Gear on sale. Once I had that, I started wearing a watch again. Once I found more functionality in the watch, aside from telling time, the watch became a viable accessory for me. Not necessarily a "must have," but it's definitely worthy of daily driving, as compared to when I didn't use one.

I forgot mine at home, today, and my wrist now feels naked.

Like I said, B&H is great, nothing but good relations with them. Hell, they are better than Amazon to me, after Amazon started to charge sales tax in Cali.

However, I have decided to request a refund instead of replacement. I can get 2 64GB microSDXC cards for $60, so why should I pay $100 for 128GB?

Because you only have one slot. Not unusual for 2 smaller cards to cost less.
