Droid Incredible scratch test. I figured I'd use a couple of the most common things to meet the face of the phone, change and keys. And a little something extra just for fun. Screen protector, nah...

Thanks for guinea pigging this one, it makes me feel a little better about going naked (should i remove my Invisible Shield).

But i will say that it didnt look as though you were really puttin the boots to it, as they say. I mean, i dont blame you, i sure wouldnt have. I think what you did probably represents your average, every day wear and tear of having your phone in your pocket with keys, change, etc.

But the real scare for me (and i think most people who have or are planning to get a screen protector), is if/when i drop my phone on the ground (Because it will happen) and it goes sliding across the street...All that sand...thats the reality, and that's when i want to KNOW that my screen will absolutely NOT get scratched. The only way to KNOW that, is to get a screen protector.

Unless i see you, or someone else take the phone outside and rub it on the ground face down on pavement, i won't be satisfied and will continue to use screen protectors.

I do have a case though and, as with almost every case, the ridges on this case prevent the screen from touching the surface when laying face down. But again, it's that small chance it MIGHT happen that worries me. And with my luck, even if it's a 1% chance, it'll happen to me.

@ phorts. It may look as if I wasn't really hitting it very hard, but I assure you, I was. And yes, what I was attempting to show was that with normal everyday use, items usually found in pockets (where most of these will probably be carried) should have no ill affects on the screen. I'll let someone else make a vid of them sliding their phone across concrete, because, even if it doesn't scratch the screen, the edges of the phone would get horribly scratched.

It's just funny to me to see that people expect these screens to be scratch proof. Yeah, I get that screens should stand "normal" everyday in your pocket with some loose change and rightfully so. But dropping it and sliding across the ground screen first and expect it to not be marred is too much of an expectation. I mean, I think it is in the realm of common sense that if you drop it from a reasonable 3+feet up in height, expect to have either a cracked screen or some sort of damage.

I'm just saying, put a freaking full screen protector on it and some sort of case. Use common sense...if you think it got scratched/damaged from that drop that you did...well, chances are it did.

I know one guy dropped his Droid out of a moving vehicle (35 mph) and the screen didn't get messed up or scratched at all, just some scratches on the body.

I ordered this phone online, and didn't get a screen protector lol.
I was so scared of getting Scratches on the screen, for the 1st 4 Days that I didn't put anything else in that pocket not even my leather wallet.. AND wrapped the phone in a mirco-Fiber cloth used for cleaning LCD screens... This at least makes me feel better about putting it in my pocket... I may put my wallet in the same pocket... but one step at a time.... thank you for the vieo!! +1

Glass is softer than almost all jewelery (quartz, diamond, sapphire, ruby, etc) as well as several other minerals that you've never heard of.

It can get scratched. If you're a woman or married to one and have a nice diamond ring, it WILL scratch the glass if it accidentally hits at a certain angle. Just because your keys and coins don't scratch the glass doesn't mean it's scratch proof. It is, however, scratch resistant.

I'll spend the measly $10 to protect my $200 investment, but thanks for the video regardless

I can go ahead and tell you a trip across the pavement *WILL* scratch the screen! I dropped it right after I got it. I actually thought the screen was scratch free, even though the edges were dinged pretty good, and said so on this forum, but over the weekend I was doing some scrolling on a web page and could feel the nick on the screen. It's small, and it really did take a horrible tumble, it skittered a good 3-5 feet across a rough parking lot face down, but it's there. I am still impressed that the scratch was so small, but still....

But it is change (usually quarters) and keys in your pocket that will rub against the phone. I don't carry a knife open in my pocket but that was a nice one.

I'm not sure if you were directing this at me, but i never said that i expected the screen to hold up to sliding across the pavement or similar events. I merely said that i will be using a screen protector until/unless someone can prove that it will not scratch under those circumstances (which we have seen/heard that it cannot).

AKA - i'll be using a screen protector because i'm prone to dropping stuff on the ground.
