USB problem on 1.6 DOTS.

O'town MO.
Ok. So I am running the notwiz 1.6 DOTS version. I have the new phone and bootloader released with warheads. I also have the new kernel. This morning after a phone call, I received a FC, android.phone etc. etc., and after closing it...the phone locked up, and rebooted. From then on my USB port started acting up. It would only charge, or become recognized by my PC every so often, till it stopped all together. I tried a few factory resets, with nothing solving it...I was going to try to flash another rom, but I can't hook up to the computer.

I just noticed though, that it charges when off, and that's it. I'll leave it hooked up to my pc, and it won't connect, but as soon as I shut off the phone, it shows that its charging. same with the wall charger, only when off.

I haven't seen anyone on the forums, or anywhere else reporting this problem...so if anyone has any ideas of what could be wrong, or how to fix it, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Find the original JC3 boot, phone, pda 1.5 OTA ODIN. Flash that back and see if your problem goes away!

I managed to flash the stock pda...but that didn't fix my usb problems. and my odin won't let me flash more than one thing at a time...so i'm too paranoid about going back to flash the bootloader and phone. lol. Hopefully it won't be a problem with the warranty when i send it back in, because i'm pretty certain now it's hardware failure with the port since flashing a new rom didn't fix it.

thanks!

odin lets you flash all 3 at once just follow these steps...

first load the ops, then the boot, then the phone, then the pda...
if at anytime it "stops working" let it search for a solution then close it out after it searches for a solution, then open up odin again and the files should be where you left off, finish putting the files back on where it froze, and it should work... at least it did for me! Plus for your warranty to be valid you will need to do this anyways!

I was afraid I'd need to old boot/phone. i'll give it a shot and see if everything will set up properly in odin...and if or when my phone decides to recognize me plugging it in again, i'll flash it. thanks for the tips man!

did you try toggleing between pc studio and mass storage mode, and then leaving it on pc studio mode?

yeah, i've done everything i could think of or anyone has mentioned...the only thing that seems to work sometimes is battery pulling. but i'll pull the battery, and it will reboot and the usb will recognize...but when i turn the phone off and put it in download mode it won't anymore...i don't get it. plus no matter what i do to odin, it won't let me load more than one thing at a time...so my luck, i'll get it back into dl mode...then flash the boot and have a phone with no os becuz it never lets odin recognize again

Wow that sucks, are you gonna give it a try? Also what OS are you running ODIN on? I use Windows Vista 32 bit.

I'm running it on win7 64. I know the port is working fine since it charges when off...but as soon as the phone is on at all it's like it turns the usb port off, and i can't understand why. so far the only problem i've seen similar is someone with a hero who this happened to, but it was stock i think, and he wasn't sure what did it...

do you by any chance have another computer, or have a Vista OS disk that you could either set up dual boot or set up a virtual machine???

I'd prefer not to dual boot vista if at all possible lol. but i could possibly set up a VM. I won't be getting my replacement handset till wednesday, and i have 10 days after that to ship this phone off...so i should have more than enough time to sort this out and fix it...if only my speaker had gone bad, and not the one thing i needed to get this phone back to stock.

EDIT* i just noticed on the stock 1.5 thread...the option for the one package or whatever. i over looked it since it said if you want to keep your apps and junk, which i didn't deem necessary...but it that might be better if it has the boot/phone/pda bundled in to one...what do you think?

So that would be a yes...you do have Vista OS disc??? You do know how to set up a VM correct?

To be honest that is what I use is Vista 32bit on VM, and my real OS is Windows 7 64 bit just like you lol.

Alright!! 15 battery pulls, reboots and shut offs later, and we have odin recognition. lol. Currently flashing the one package as I type. Thanks again man...if you hadn't posted I probably would have given up after just the PDA and been screwed out of a warranty exchange.

Let me know if it all flashes correctly, and also hopefully it fixes your problem, if not at least your warrant will not be voided!

wow someone else has the same problem as me. mine hung up on a rom load. then it would not reboot. odin would not see my phone either. I tried every thing too. I pulled the battery about 50+ times and finally it did so I got back up. now when i put it in download mode odin still cant find my phone. I have put several roms on in the past with no poblems at all. I am running win7 32 but have tried a computer running xp no luck there either. rudoFF does odin work for you now does it see your phone.

I'm pretty sure it is a hardware failure...if you are having the same problem with it as I am. The usb port on the phone only works when the phone is off. The only way i've gotten it to work is by hooking up the phone to the computer...pulling the battery and letting it reset till the computer sees the phone is hooked up...then turn off the phone and put it in download mode without unhooking it.

hopefully that works for you, and if you're still under warranty you might wanna warranty exchange, cuz i don't think there is a fix for this, at least a permanent one.

When you power down your phone, you have to wait till you feel that little vibrate, then you know it has completely shutdown, from there it is safe to plug it in and boot into download mode. To be honest you don't need to plug it in first. Just boot into download mode then plug it in!
