My one big gripe about the S5: the Micro-B USB 3.0 / charging cover.

My one big gripe about the Galaxy S5: the Micro-B USB 3.0 / charging cover that is now always loose. At first it wasn't very hard to put on and stay on, but slowly took longer and longer to stay on and now is loose and hangs out. From what I'm reading this is a design flaw on Samsung part. :(

So, since I'm not around water much and I'm not one who using the phone in the bathroom, and the fact that I've never gotten a cell phone wet in 12 years, I don't really need the waterproof feature, so I took the charging cover off.

With the battery cover off, you will see 2 Phillips screws on the bottom. the screw on the left is the access port to replace the port cover. You will have to pull the cover a bit as there is a lip that keeps it from sliding out easily... I imagine so you don't lose it.

I am amazed that SAMSUNG knew that thing would break a lot and made this a very simple repair.

Yeah, the cover on the port is annoying as hell. Each time I open it I think, "Please God, don't let this flimsy rubber piece snap off!"
I wasn't really worried it would break... what was very annoying  was it wouldn't set flush anymore, it would partially hang out all the time which makes the phone look "cheap". So I decided to take it off.

How long did you have your phone before this started happening?

Just a little bit after a month... had to take the extra time to start pushing it in hard more than once. After the second month, no matter how much pushing helped, just hanging about 1/4 out. Irritating! I bought this phone the first weekend it came out.

I have found that if you push it back in towards the right rear a bit, and then push in more towards the right and slide your thumbnail to the left, it will lock tight every time.
(all with screen facing up)

So far, no issues with mine at all.

I did install a Qi charger about May 1st (week 3 of owning it after release)

That has significantly reduced the number of times I need to open the port now.

Too much hassle... I did that for awhile, worked... for awhile, then loose no matter how much time I spent doing it. I like mine off. Just like the past few Samsung's were... no biggie.
Besides, you haven't been taking yours off and on every day for awhile as you have the Qi charger, so I bet it would be loose by now if you didn't have that charger... ;)

Using an air compressor and a pushpin, i was able to blow/scrape out whatever had accumulated in my charging port, allowing the previously loose charging port to close fully again.

...uh if you have the cover on all the time, how does the dirt get in there? It is suppose to be waterproof, which also means keeping dust/dirt out. ;)

I went to the main AT&T store for Tacoma today to see if they have a solution for the usb cover and the guy who helped me played dumb, saying he hasn't heard any complaints about it there. I said "Really!" and walked out. Definitely not getting a Samsung next time around since they're ignoring the obvious defect by now. I'm liking that new LG 6" Curve...
