Who uses Hangouts as default sms app?

Yesterday I finally decided to give Hangouts a try as my default sms app. It has only been 24 hours but it seems to work pretty smooth on both my phones. One issue I have found is that profile pictures don't show up from time to time (I think their was a thread about this issue).
Let me know what your experiences with hangouts has been like...... :D

Been using hangouts 4evr (omg, did I just type that? I'm turning into a 13 year old girl! ;) )

I haven't found any problems at all with it. There is an issue with contact photos, but I don't think it's a bug, just "broken as designed". It is either if your local profile picture doesn't match your gmail contact picture or if one is missing. I don't care that much so i haven't looked any further than a cursory perusal of the tech blogs.

I use it for SMS, but have the g+ hangouts portion signed out

I'm a slow changer stuck in the dark ages of stock sms.

If it's not too much a detour, what benefit does hangouts give?

If you use g+, the hangouts implementation is nice. Eventually, it will have google voice merged in as well

I think that's what many are waiting not so patiently for ;)

I've been using it for a while now too, it's OK. It does lose contact pics but then seems to find them again, no rhyme or reason but not a big deal. I don't use Hangouts on G+ so am only using it as a texting app, none of my friends/family use G+ ever. I do wish it would let you SMS/MMS from Hangouts to phone numbers on the laptop/PC and sync w/the phone. That would be nice.

I just started using it again after stopping for a while. What made me stop using it was that the timestamp on the message shows when the message was received. Normally this isn't an issue, but I do put it into airplane mode when I'm at work (this is my personal phone). When I turn airplane mode off, Hangouts then retrieves the message and any message sent while my phone was in airplane mode. The timestamps of all these messages will be when I turned airplane mode off and Hangouts retrieves these messages.

I found out that I can long tap on the message to get more message details. In these details, it shows both the sent and received times, so I can tell when the message was sent. It is an additional step, but I'm OK with it for now. It's nice to be able to remove the default messaging app from my home screen folder.

Thanks for sharing that little tidbit of information. That will come in handy when I am traveling.

I really like it. I do have one friend who's G+ profile won't merge with his contact on my phone, but he doesn't use the G+ side of things anyway(and uses an iPhone, so likely doesn't have hangouts installed), therefore I'm ok just using SMS with him.

I do wish they would carry your SMS messages through to Hangouts so you have continuity between your phone and your computer, but I do use MightyText to fill the gap.

Well, I am the one who uses the Hangouts application as a default sms app, and tell you what its interesting I know at start samsung has tried to overtake the messages with their chat on application but i find chat on annoying throw it in a piece of garbage and enjoying the most out of the Hangout application.

I have a Samsung phone as well. When I activate Hangouts, I get a pop up message warning that I will lose some features if I don't use the default message app. It makes me feel that Samsung doesn't want me to use hangouts. :)

Do you guys who use hangouts not like an sms popup box or you are using an additional app to provide a popup?

I actually don't like the popup that appears on my lock screen. I do recall some other forum member complained about it. It doesn't bother me that much, but I'm glad that it's not there anymore. When my phone is locked, I actually don't want my messages appearing for anyone to see.

There's no popup with hangouts even under the lockscreen, right? I would miss the popup if I used hangouts.

I know with some sms apps, you can toggle whether you want it above the lockscreen or not.
