Qi Wireless Charging Module/Coil

After receiving the G3 from Verizon, I was disappointed to learn that the phone itself doesn't have the wireless charging module/coil built into the device. It only has the NFC coil. So no wireless charging out of the box.

This is a feature that should have been built in, but carriers got involved with the design and wanted to sell more accessories

In order to get that feature officially, you have to purchase that expensive "Circle Folio" case for $60 (from Verizon).

While the Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint (I believe) use the Qi wireless charging technology, the AT&T variant uses PMA tech which isn't compatible.

Anyway, I found a coil available from ***a place I can't mention...opps***, which I believe will work with Qi variant phones and is only $10. Google "Factory Direct Wholesale wireless charging + NFC IC chip for LG G3 CASE D885 D830,D851,D850 F400L,F400K,F400S" and you'll find a 5 pack for $32 and a single unit for ten bucks.

I ordered Style 1 (I think Style 2 is for Korean versions) and I think I just have to carefully unstick the old one from inside of the battery cover, and replace it with the new one. From my research, I am pretty certain this will not work for AT&T branded LG G3's, only the others.

I'll report back my experience when I receive it. Though it'll take a while to get here. It's from China and they give a 39 day guarantee time.

But I wanted to start this thread in case others were looking to add the wireless charging without having to buy an overpriced case, or a case they might not like.

I am astounded that we need to jump through these sort of hoops just to be able to activate wireless charging on this phone. Why can't LG offer this as an option to anyone via a 4 pin back cover? It's like we are being punished.. I really hate it.

on another matter, anyone know if this "Spain" one will work for Qi on the Verizon? The seller didn't know if it was powermat or qi and someone else on the other thread questioned the pin spacing of international variants. What a mess!//// It is the Euro model though.

It's not LG. Its the US carriers. They are greedy and try and pinch every penny from us.

The Korean LG G3 comes with wireless charging out the box.

Yes, but LG could make the backs available as aftermarket or something or even through the carriers as an option. Why have the feature in the phone if it can't easily be enabled. LG basically lets the carriers muck the phones up all they want. They need to be more like Apple and tighten things up.

My guess is they will be available from the carriers before too long.

I believe that it will work, but I'll let you know for sure when mine arrives.

I don't think the carriers give it a second thought, and other than the stupid circle case, I have no doubt that none of the carriers will even think to offer the charging backs. Marketing is done on this model. It's up to us to figure it out.

I'm sure they'll offer charging backs. If money is involved and it benefits them, you bet they'll be all over it. Considering the phone is still in its infancy, give it some time. But for the time being, those in the know will have to find our own way.

Expansys-usa has the slim guard case as shipping Aug 19 in the US. I imagine by the end of next month most of the official LG accessories for the US models will be out.

I don't have the G3 anymore,but,the wireless charging was one of the top features I was looking for in a phone.

I hope this add-on coil works out well for everyone. :thumb:

It will. Some people have confirmed that it is working.

If you were able to place an order, than you got in the first 100. I set up PayPal where if it sells out of the 100, it takes you to a SOLD OUT page. As of this post, I still have about 8 left. PM me your transaction ID or first and last name and I'll confirm.

Got Round 1 preorders in on Monday. All I'm waiting for are packaging materials to arrive which should be Friday (it should of been here Wednesday but sellers took forever to ship) and they should start to be sent out Saturday/Monday. Some Qi stickers have already shipped out to those who paid for Priority Mail since I have those envelopes on hand.
