Please help cure me of my Android OCD

Just taken ownership of a new Android phone with Kitkat and I love it.

Here's the annoying thing, I've had it for 4 days and completely babied it, and despite installing a screen protector and getting a pouch with a soft microfibre interior, the black plastic frame has a small mark/scratch on it.

I cannot stop examining the mark in bright sunlight and I keep polishing it with a microfibre despite the fact it's clear it won't buff out. This happens everytime I buy something new and I'm fed up with it. It also drives me mad wondering how it happened when I've been so careful with it.

I just want to enjoy my stuff without obsessing over very minor cosmetic damage but it's like there's a small creature in my brain forcing my to think about and obsess over these things day and night.

I also feel very guilty that some people in the world have *real* problems and I'm fretting about the insignificant, but I can't seem to help it (see above).

You could also look into a hard case for your phone. Some people like them, some don't. I have a Spigen Slim Armor on mine and I think it's looks good. Protects the phone from scratches, and if the case is scratched I really don't care at all. I'm not a fan of scratches on my phone, either.

I've seen people still holding onto an old Galaxy SII that has lost the shiny bezel to tons of scratches, the glossy back peeling like a bad clearcoat paint, and the screen shattered. I cannot imagine holding onto any phone in such a condition.

My Note 3's S-View cover glass has somehow managed to mark up the Gorilla Glass in that area of the phone but so long as it's not battered like the many SII and HTC Inspires still out in the wild I don't care

First, what model? Second, on what part of the plastic frame is the scratch? Front? Back? If on a removable backplate, you can always replace that.

Secondly, look into full-body screen protectors. Ghost Armor is preferred, but there are other options. See if there are any installation locations near you. These things, when properly (wet) installed can give the illusion of filling in cracks. They're VERY nice when properly installed and I've become a huge fan. I now install the Ghost Armor skins myself as I value perfection on the install more than the guy being paid $5-$10 to do it.

I'm not sure, it could have been. In fact the phone has been replace due to another fault, but the new one now has two tiny little dents in the bezel which were definitely there when it came out of the box (they're so small I'm not sure the shop would take me seriously if I returned it, and I don't want to take the risk as you could end up with a worse fault, such as a dead pixel )

lol that's OK. For many years now I've actually kept my phones in a leather pouch (preferable with soft lining inside). Everyone I know uses either hard cases or gel cases which I believe gradually rub against the casing of the phone and also accumulate lots of muck. A pouch allows me to use the phone naked (the phone naked, not me) but offers total protection whilst carrying it round. Obviously you just have to be careful not to drop it whilst you're using it.

It's the Moto G. Sadly it was the black plastic bezel, rather than the plastic backplate (which can be replaced). My replacement phone also has two tiny dents on the same plastic bezel too.

Well i would say why are you thinking too much about cosmetic damage, these things are made while keeping in a mind that they are prone to cosmetic damage I know we don't love scratches but i don't think you can do anything about it rather than spending a huge amount of cash over your pocket and change the whole housing of your device. But tell you what even after changing the whole housing after 10-15 days later you will again spot another scratch. I would say don't just give too much attention to the scratches.

Yes you are right. It's not helped by the fact that I study these things and go looking for problems. I am a perfectionist to the highest degree. Which is really not a good thing tbh. Perhaps I should get a job at Rolls Royce, I saw a documentary recently where they embedded hundreds of diamonds into one of the cars interior panels, and the jeweler had to re-do it twice because the people at Rolls Royce inspected it under a magnifying glass and spotted a minute defect the first two times.
