Root [Virgin Mobile] Here is the way to disable ota notifications - easy!

All you have to do is Edit Your Build Prop.

ro.build.description=goghvmu-user 4.1.2 JZO54K L300VPAND4 release-keys
ro.build.fingerprint=samsung/goghvmu/goghvmu:4.1.2/JZO54K/L300VPAND4:user/release-keys

*** I've added two attachments. The 1st attachment will give you init.d support after that unzip the the script named cleaner and put it in the init.d folder and give it 777 perms. Make sure you go to the cache folder and move the OTA.zip to your trash folder. Boot into recovery & wipe cache/dalvik cache and you will be good to go. Yeah you right!

The best way to do it is make a copy in ES Explorer and make the changes to it and then copy it to the system and paste. Make sure your permission are rw r r after pasting. I then mounted the system as read-only and rebooted. I haven't got a notification in a week. Yeah you right.

And which app would that be? Every app I have with the word "update" in it has been disabled, yet these messages still come.

In the app "App Quarantine" went into settings > Filrer > Advanced. Then I Quarantined the service "System Update"

So far so good for me.

Just move the update from /cache to your sdcard for safe keeping, then let it try to update. It will fail or boot you to twrp, then just reboot system and it should stop. Worked for me. At least a week now. That was thanks to jerryscript.

I disabled that app with NoBloat. Still get the notification. If I let it try, fail, and reboot it will stop giving me the notification. For about a week. Then it comes back. How do I stop it permanently?

huh? I have almost zero knowledge about how all this works. You guys start talking about recoveries and kernels and roms and my eyes glaze over. I don't get it. I don't really want to get it. I just want the notification to stop. That is all. Can you give me step by step instructions on how to do that? I tried installing a file you linked before and it failed.

It's still too difficult for me. Sorry I am an idiot. I had no business messing with these phones. Lesson learned, and I won't do it again. I may even just go back to dumb phones. I really really really don't like these things. I just want to call and text. I can use my laptop for everything else.

You have to help us help you. You're asking for the most detailed instructions known to man, but you're not providing even one single detail. What have you tried? What is failing? Where are you getting stuck? What exactly is the first thing you don't understand? What parts of the instructions are you stuck on? And you can't just say all of it, that's not true. You flashed twrp, you flashed SuperSU and busybox, so you know how to use the basics. We need as much detail as possible. Do you know how to make and restore a backup in twrp? That's one place to start.
