This correlates with Anandtech and my original brilliant-in-my-own-mind-only prognostication:

1. The 805 makes a bigger difference with GPU leveraged tasks that use higher than 1080p.
2. The G3 display is the key power hog, so the same micron process 805 makes no battery difference.
3. The S5 actually gets a battery improvement since same battery life as the 1080p version, but Qhd. This is due to the newer more power efficient display tech- designed for Qhd.

Still for light to medium users and people that upgraded from two year old devices the G3 801 is not much different than the 805. Added: That is unless you prefer Qhd content, since the 805 is designed for it and the 801 was not.

My guess is we will see the G3 805 version in the US this fall, but the Note 4 will have better battery life due to the newer display tech. At least 1.5 hours and probably 2. Just like the Note 3.

While I don't regret my purchase at all, and I don't think the 805 would change my life at all, I AM excited to see what next year's flagships will be like. We may be a BIT early on QHD this year, but it should be figured out by next year with even greater battery life. Maybe more widespread waterproofing. I can't imagine me NOT buying one off contract, just because I'm that impulsive.

I chose the G3 coming from the M7 and I am at my final days of the trial. I am currently researching if I'm missing something about this dang battery! IDK if I was spoiled with the M7 or what but this thing is ridiculous on battery in my almost 2 weeks. You can watch it drain using location and maps.

You may want to look into that.
Everything else is awesome! I mainly chose the G3 because HTC was boring me since that's about all i've ever owned and I wasn't sure about the M8 camera (m7 cam wasn't so good).

I think I'd rather have battery after being afraid to lose battery while traveling w/o a car charger. Did get some great scenic pics though! I travel for work, so don't get me wrong, it just may not be for me. Waiting on a report from a buddy that has had it longer than I while I research others opinions.

100% agree. With the more battery efficient screen, S805 and 4gb of RAM, unless Samsung completely mess up it the Note 4 should blow the G3 away in terms if performance. Looks wise I think the G3 wins,if the leaks are correct.

I've continued to be impressed with performance and battery life. Since doing my original testing with the device the battery never gets close to empty on a normal day. I'm so used to throwing my phone on the charger in the car and when I get home that I have to remind myself it's not necessary. Old habits LOL! When I'm in my car driving for Lyft, I have GPS going constantly, streaming music, multiple apps open...and it just hums along and switches back and forth with ease. It is just an all around good performer and the 5.5" screen is fantastic when I'm sitting around and want to watch some videos. Usually I become less enamored with a device after having it for a month or so. I'm actually more and more impressed with this one as time has gone on.

Still am a tad envious of the M8's build quality though. The G3 is good as far as a plastic phone goes but the all metal build of the M8 still feels superior. That is the only compromise I personally had to make and it's not a major one for me (especially since I use a case).

Just to show the point of competition being great for us consumers, if Softbank were to bring the Sharp Aquos Crystal X over to Sprint, I'd have to take a serious look at it.

For the people that were hoping for closer to the G2 dimensions, the Crystal X is pretty darn close, except it matches the G3's screen size. Too bad it's supposedly Japan only, but I would seriously consider losing my love the S-Pen, if they released this phone in the US, on Sprint!

Come on man, u r sold on G3 already!

Root for Verizon version is there and it is quite easy.

Unfortunately Verizon version bootloader is locked, so not much can be done at the moment except root.

I am quite sure that no lag at all will be there if you get something like Root App delete and clean up your G3, although I cannot guarantee it.

I am lucky, I am with T-Mo, and T-Mo version comes with the unlocked bootloader.

There are several custom ROMs already, and I am ruunning one of them, ZoneRom.

I've got several extra batteries which are at least equal to stock, for around $6+ each. So battery life is not issue at all for me. Not that I don't get a great battery life already, see my posts in the corresponding thread.

My Nexus 5 is sleek and understated which is more my style, and the absence of branding and no physical home button the front, I find it especially appealing.

Then there's my LG G3, a real winner in my book. Having the same layout of on screen buttons as my Nexus 5 it too is very fast when multitasking which I do a tremendous amount of. The 5.5" display in such a compact phone is another huge advantage for my use.

I prefer the pure Android 4.4.4 featured on my Nexus 5 & 7 models. If not for that the G3 would be at the top of list.

Finally, I'm super eager to get my hands on a 6.0" Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro, trial and error has taught me a 6" display in a phone size of the Vibe is ideal for me. If it's everything it appears to be I'll be thrilled and less hesitant to migrate away from the pure Nexus models.

Again, I would pick the G3 over the M8 due to the replaceable battery, MUCH better navigation bar hiding for UI/apps and the better camera.

Also, though I find the display better quality on the M8, the huge bezel and weak inferior navigation bar management (to the G3) makes the display even smaller. I will take the weaker contrast of the G3 over that. You get used to the contrast issue after a few minutes, but NOT the smaller display.

Overall the M8 has a much smaller display but similar size device.

IMO, you are both looking at this a little short sided right now. Just deal with what's available for right now, and just wait until 2015, when we'll potentially be looking at the folding phone/tablet options available. I can only see Samsung and LG releasing products, since they've been working on their flexible LCD's for quite some time already, but they are supposedly right around the corner.

For me, personally, that's what I'm waiting on. I've loved having a 8 inch tablet and the Note 3, but the first folding device that comes out that'll replace both admirably, that'll be my next "phone."

So my G3 came today and first impressions: it's AWESOME! It feels amazing in the hands, like a premium flagship phone should. Right now I'm just obsessed with it and can't put it down. There are so many little things that are just wowing me and are making me think how the heck did I ever live without this??

Few things I have noticed are that my phone did warm up (probably because it's plugged in for charging and screen has been on for an hour straight) and wouldn't let me put the brightness to 100%, which by the way was not needed at all. The screen is bright enough for me at 50% and I just wanted to see what 100% would look like, not a big issue.

There is some lag and choppiness but it's very minor and doesn't bother me. It felt like it got much better once I hid the useless AT&T apps but not sure how valid that is. I will try novalauncher later tonight and see if it makes a difference.

So far it looks like I made the right choice! Thank you to everyone that contributed to this thread . I ddin't get to reply to everyone but I read every post! You guys are awesome.

In a few days I'll also post more about how I'm liking the phone and how my battery is .

I think we just like to sample the new hardware as much as anything else,along w/the mfgs different perspective on what features to bring to the table & how they're implemented.
