Volt screen replacement

Those of you wondering about replacing volt screen( I suspect there's quite a few of you as this phone is like a wet bar of soap) I just changed my wife's screen in about one hour. Bought the replacement of ebay for$45( says its for boost but worked just fine on VM). Also need 2 mm tape, $2 ebay, and a mini tool set. The closest guide I found was utube fixez for the lg optimus G pro. Not exactly the same but close. The volt needs 2 mini coaxial wires unplugged before removing the motherboard vs one for the g pro. No need to mess with the bottom of the phone as the motherboard is on top half with skinny piece on the side. If you take your time pretty easy.,sorry I didn't post pics or a video, will do for sure next time as my wife drops this phone at least 2x/ wk.

My comparison was "holding onto a live fish," but the bar of soap is appropriate too, lol. What possesses these people to design phones that are so slippery? Finally had my case arrive so that I (hopefully) won't have to make use of this advice.

I just replaced the Digitizer for my Volt, and now the physical home button doesn't work anymore; It felt like the digitizer is pressing down on the button, so I removed the digitizer and checked the home button. Turns out, it presses, but it doesn't "click" anymore. Feels like the soft back and option/settings keys on the phone. Now when i put it in my pocket it's constantly turning on with whatever little pressure falls on the bottom portion of the screen. It still works, however it's a pain to type (Whenever I push the spacebar while typing, the pressure triggers the home button and takes me out of the text i was typing.) I'm wondering if any of you guys have experienced such a thing?

I did not,experience what you describe but one thing I had to do is remove a ton of adhesive from the bottom of the phone around the home button. It's deceiving because it did not look like adhesive, a thick layer of grayish blue material which looked liked it belonged there but was actually the original adhesive. I heated it with a blow dryer and carefully removed all of it then applied as much 2mm tape as I could all around. There could be some left over derbies or adhesive left over that's causing just enough pressure to almost keep it engaged. Hopefully you can remove it without cracking it and clean that gunk out. Good luck.

Just bought the LG Volt today at best buy they had it in sale for $129. I still have my old phone which is the F3.

Lucky you! If you crack the screen and are looking to DIY, careful which buyers they come from. Mine seemed to be perfect until the home button was permanently stuck. I later realized that the hole for the home button simply isn't big enough to fit the button. Now I'm stuck with a volt with a messed up home button and the softkey navigation bar activated.

That part is all you will need. Also highly recommend you spend a few bucks on screen replacement tools, think I paid $10 for a kit off ebay if not then at least get a guitar pick to help remove the old screen. Also need to order 2mm tape to complete the job. Its doable if you really take it slow. I paid $45 for mine and I see prices have come down quite a bit. From the pic on ebay it looks like its the same thing I bought. Good luck, for that price its worth tryint to fix

Full job took between 1 hour and 1.5 hours, total cost under $35 for parts/tax/shipping and now it looks even better than before. The most frustrating part for me was that I kept getting the phone back nearly fully assembled, would power up to test, and somewhere in the last couple steps the home button would get stuck. It took maybe 5 teardowns before I finally got it aligned just perfectly - there is zero room for error here. The only other issue I had was separating the backing from the double sided tape. Also, there is no reason to remove everything like in the guide unless you just happen to be curious. There is only one connection from the screen to motherboard that needs to be undone.

That's one thing I loved about my LG Optimus V - the thing was built like a tank. I dropped it at least five times. Some of the times it would split into three 'parts' (the back cover, battery, and phone), some of the time it remained intact. Every single time I just snapped it back together and pressed the power button and it worked. Only "problem" I ever had was crashed apps (not surprising when the battery's removed like that). I really wish they keep building phones that well.

I had my phone in my back pocket and sat on it. It didn't break the screen, but now about 1/2 the screen is black, ot has dark lines running from top to bottom. Will replacement of the digitizer screen fix this issue?

Does anyone know if the volt needs loca glue when replacing the screen? Like the Samsung galaxy phones? Or is it just the double sided tape we need?

After I replaced the internal parts everything works but no touch can't get past activate

Well, I dropped my phone today (no case) and cracked the glass screen (digitizer?). Phone works properly and placed a screen protector for the time being since the glass was catching my finger.
Question from researching this is, after removing the factory adhesive, how many layers of the 2mm tape are required to re-glue the glass?
I called one repair place and they suggested multiple layers "might" be required and that I should mail it to them for an $80 round trip repair. They are holding the special sauce recipe close to their chest.
For anyone who did the replacement (with success) did you use one or more layers.
