Help HTC one m8 battery problem!!

So I got a new m8, after few days i rooted ,unlocked custom recovery, but then I couldn't get s-off as I got the device patched by HTC, so reverted back saftly to stock with a online nandroid unrooted backup , now stock recovery,relocked but the problem is , the battery drains quick , for instance now while typing this new thread, I lost 2% in 10 minutes and I lost 70% in 13 hours 55 minutes , only one hour playing super hexagone and piano tiles , rest it was only screen off, please help me as I have read the viperone m8 Rom offers great battery life and performance

You might have a rogue app. Put your phone in safe mode for a while and see if the battery drain persists, if it does then there's another issue.

How to get in safe mode.

Basically, this will help to determine whether the issue is a system issue or an app issue.

I did get into safe mode but within 10 minutes of surfing the web. The battery went from 60 to 58 , I guess it's another issue , please help me , and besides that do you think if I send it to get it fixed to the shop from where I bought it will my relocked and tampered sign block my warrenty ????

Once you unlocked your bootloader you voided your warranty. That's the price we pay for the freedom of our devices. There have been countless folks who have returned their devices as such, and haven't had the slightest problem. There is a possibility they "can" deny you since you did void your warranty though.

I'm not 100% convinced it's a device issue from what I've read. You are updated to the latest 4.4.3, yes?

There are some experiencing wakelocks, the phone not sleeping properly, and are having battery issues. Some get it, some don't. I for one am having the issue since I updated to the latest 4.4.3 Viper Rom. I still get more than a full day with heavy use, so it's not really bothering me too bad. The devs will find whats causing it before too long and fix it. I wouldn't be too surprised to see a maintenance OTA from HTC to address this as well.

Go to the Play Store and download GSam battery monitor. Open that one up and select the oil can icon. You'll see what is causing the wakelock on your phone. If you see "Kernel (Android OS) at the very top eating the majority of your battery, it's the update.

I m on the latest stock 4.4.3 OTA from HTC, so I was thinking of recalabrating my battery then see if the issue is solved if not then go to the store on Sunday check if the fix my phone and do you think a hard factory reset can solve my problem ??

Actually, unlocking your bootloader doesn't totally void your warranty, you're still covered for hardware issues, just not software issues as you've tampered with the software.

As said above, as you didn't experience battery drain whilst in safe mode then I don't think you have an issue with your phone, I'm 99% sure it's an app issue so there's no point at this stage sending your phone back.

As mentioned, download GSam and see what it using your battery the most, make sure you monitor it for a whole day.

When you find the issue let us know and we'll be able to help further.

Do the above before doing a Factory Reset, that's a last resort.

You said you got that in safe mode, safe mode disables all your 3rd party apps. So now you need see what app is causing your drain.

Yeah it was is safe mode , is that much drain normal ?? And besides I searched online and many people a facing the problem since the latest update , I dint know which app is causeing it , what if it's a system app itself ??

That's the point of testing.

That much drain in safe mode is normal. Being in safe mode disables 3rd party apps so if there's no battery drain then it can't be a system issue.

Go back to normal mode and then do some battery tests and see if it's an app that is causing the drain.

Could be the update but still won't hurt to test.

Just want to clear something up for the OP, 2 to 3% after browsing isn't bad at all. The biggest battery hog on the device is the screen. You may want to expand your sample size some more.
Boot back into safe mode and use it for at least an hour and then take a look at the battery stats. Boot into normal mode and do the same things for the same amount of time and see if there is much of a difference.

If the battery drain appears in BOTH safe mode and normal mode I would recommend uninstalling or disabling apps you do not need. If the problem persists after a day or so then do a factory reset. If the problem still persists after the factory reset, exchange the phone through the warranty process.

If the problem is only in normal mode then you need to find the rogue app that is using the battery by looking over your battery stats. Once you find it try clearing the app's data, and if it still continues you need to determine if you can live without the app. If you can then uninstall it.

Test to see if problem still persists, install Clean Master and do a full cache/storage cleanup (and nothing else from that app). That function used to be built in to Sense but for reasons unknown, they removed it.

sorry guys , in the main post i meant i lost 30% in 13 hours and 55 minutes , and one hour of super hexagon , so guess that much drain is normal ?? as i have heard that many people game on the m8 for an hour and only lost about 10% of their battery.

I got my new HTC one m8 on 1st September, this Monday. Immediately I upgraded it to the 4.3.3 update. For the first 2-3 days my battery drain was 10-15% per hour for surfing the net on 3G, installing apps from the store, regular sync. I notice this and reduced the brightness, changed to 2G connection,switched off the wi-fi and made minimal use of my phone. The battery did increase considerably but I didnt make use of my phone at all.

For me the maximum battery is consumed by screen and app usage. The appusage says its 'Kernel (Android OS)' which is in the top of the list.

Will my battery life slowly increase? my phone was about 12 to 13% when i got it. Should I ask for a replacement?

I rest the battery manager after going through forums, I'll update the screenshots by tomorrow if the changes did matter.

Signal ranges don't seem to be a problem where I stay or study. I'm usually getting about 3 to 5 bars on 2G or 3G

As Granite said, try GSam Battery Monitor to see where power is going, including radios.

The goal is to not be active when the screen is off. Or, hardly active.

To really analyze wakelocks, get Wakelock Detector.

the kernel (OS) is not at the top but it is below the system i.e its second on the main battery usage.

Look at the radio power graph and the other graph in GSam.

Kernel and system power usage are driven by apps, services, confidence and radio quality.

No, you shouldn't ask for a replacement.

Try the advice in this thread - backup, factory data reset and clean, restore and look for wakelocks.

I did do all of that, factory reset two times and the warelock I looked for says it needs a root. I get only half the expected battery life of the phone as quoted by the manufacturer. Is there any fix to this problem?
The pictures show my current useage right now, if I'm facing the battery problem now will it get worse in time?

Look you got a decent screen time , I would suggest doing a factory reset and then clear dalvik and system cache from stock recovery , then do a battery calibration, to do so charge your phone to 100% then without charging it again or using usb drain it till 0%. Or till it powers off , then while power off charge it back to 100% then when done power on the phone and do a couple of 're starts , and use a Qualcomm battery saver from market , it's made specially for our device .

I wouldn't really like to send it back cause this is under seller warranty on some store I got from ebay, highly doubt the replacement scene. Even If I do send it back I doubt I'm getting anything back for a few weeks, and that wait would just suck

I don't know what you want from the phone but you got 5 and half hours screen on time over a 16 hour period, if you drained it to zero you would probably get 6 hours SOT.

Stop worrying, if you want the phone to last longer then stop using it so much :thumb:

Before I bought this phone after I read a ton of reviews which said it lasted the full day for them with heavy usage, what I'm seeing is light to moderate usage on my phone. 5 hours of screen time may look good to you but to me it sucks cause I don't think I've used my phone that much at all
