Google, Please Fix Contacts App by Allowing Duplication of a Contact

I think the title says it all, don't you?

It should be possible to create a new contact by duplicating an existing one, either in GMail Contacts (in a full-fledged browser) or directly in the Contacts app on an Android device.

This would allow, for example, adding new members of a family or new employees of a company. Then, just the new name, email or phone number (or whatever) could be entered to replace the duplicated ones and leave the remaining fields all the same.

As a former Palm user, I was able to do this on that platform (primitive as it now seems by comparison to Android).

Google: are you listening? How hard could it be?

I don't know if this is what you meant, but I have entered duplicate address and phone numbers for some of my contacts. When I pull up the contact, I see both numbers and both addresses.

In order to enter the second phone number and address, I just entered the same name as the contact (as a new contact), then entered the new information. The phone numbers are listed first, followed by addresses.

I doubt Google spends much time here. If any.

I agree.

As far as duplicate contacts, I don't see what the problem is. I have duplicates of all of mine - some as many as four or six.

I think you may have missed my point entirely.

Let's say you have your friend "Joe's" home number, address and email address in a GMail Contact. Then he gets married and you want to make a contact for his wife, "Sue", who has the same last name. home address and phone number, but (obviously) a different first name and email address.

It would be much easier if it were possible to simply start from a duplicate of Joe's contact entry and replace "Joe" with "Sue" and the email address, leaving the other fields the same.

As it is, instead you'd have to create a new empty contact and then either fill in each field from memory (possibly with errors) or somehow go back and forth between Joe and Sue, copying each field individually.

Nope, not what I meant at all.
