I had heard that as well. Might as well do that since it's the last 4.4.* update before L. Easier to have the carriers test one build instead of two. Pushes it through faster.

I'm just glad I'm not on Verizon. They are very slow to update the OS on phones. If Sprint/HTC can push out updates with the quickness so should Verizon. Sprint has a new CEO who is hungry to knock Verizon off their pedestal.
Ok so I let it sit for a bit and it took the update. Initial reaction (since I took it at 40% battery) is that charging time has greatly decreased. 26% to fully charged in just over 70 minutes. LED still doesn't blink while on charger. Haven't tested EPS (nor do I intend to as I have no use for it)
Is there anything else that needs testing/feedback?

Based on my experience with the VZW GS4 KitKat update, give it 1 day to 2 weeks and then put it through vigorous SMS testing. The GS4 update cause a huge issue for me where texts would either fail (with message) or just hang and say they are trying to send for hours on end. The first time I updated, it didn't start happening until about 5 or 6 days after I took the update. But then with the replacement phones, it would happen just a day or two after the update.
Honestly, I am more than nervous about taking this update. In fact, I very well may hold off for a few weeks just to make sure no one starts complaining about major issues like what I got on the GS4.
