Droid user for a month, used my old 2g Iphone over the weekend...

Holy crap what a difference. I still use my old iPhone as a glorified iTouch and media player for my Ford Sync system plus I still have a very nice dock I use it with on occasion.

Well this weekend, I took it inside (it normally stays in the car 24/7) and proceeded to browse the internet using my wifi at my house. To say the difference is noticeable is an understatement. I couldn't believe how much better the Droid's screen is for browsing and just overall speediness of the phone itself over the iPhone. The pinch to zoom on the iPhone was the only thing that I actually liked better. Everything else, was much worse. The resolution of the iPhone pales in comparison and looks rather horrible when compared with the Droid. Also, just the speed of browsing is so much better on the Droid. To give an example, when browsing these forums, I couldn't scroll down 1/2 page before seeing the checkerboard pattern while the phone waited to load that part of the page. Whereas with the Droid, you can scroll top to bottom in a split second with no loading as you go required. Oh, one more thing, people always say the iPhone is so easy to use, but IMO, Android is almost as user friendly and if you know how the menu system works, it's just as easy to use. Seriously, there are quite a few settings on the iPhone that are buried in a series of menus just like Android. Plus, with speech to text and Swype, I don't know how it gets any easier than that!

Even after a month's worth of use, I still "play" with my Droid constantly. My iPhone never saw this much use even when it was new. That's how cool the Droid is and has managed to keep my interest. I am on the fence currently about rooting it, but that doesn't surprise me since I still haven't jailbroken my old iPhone. :D

Overall however, the screen is the main thing that immediately jumps out at you. It's that beautiful on the Droid compared to the iPhone. Heck, it's that beautiful even compared to the newest of phones cough, cough Incredible/N1. I think I saw a thread for Droid converts to the Incredible where they were griping how the screen wasn't as good as the Droid's. Let's just hope Motorola doesn't f up what is turning out to be Droid's killer app IMO.

Anyway, not really sure why I just wasted your time for reading this and my time with making this post, but just to say with so many threads griping about this or that, I am still 1000% pleased with the iPhone/Droid, ATT/Verizon switch I made. I can't imagine not having an Android device now that I've "seen the light" so to speak when compared with iPhone OS no matter what revision.

Droid Does!! However to be fair, (disclaimer: I do not own any apple products and do not plan on it soon) you comparing the droid to the original I-phone is like apples to camels. Now if it were the 3GS then maybe but the droid destroys the 3G, I do not have experience with the S but I imagine the same to be true but processor wise the I-phone original is a dinosaur lol

I like android phones better than the iphone but there is no way you can compare these phones. The 2g iphone came out like 3 years ago, that phone is ancient now a days. The Iphone you have doesnt run on 3g speeds so of course it is a lot slower.

But with that said yes the Droid has a really great screen, and verizon is so much better for me. I just dont think it is fair to compare a less than year old phone with a 3 year old phone.

But glad to have you aboard the android community.

Yeah, since the release of Bugless Beast V1.0, I'd say you'd be silly not to root! To put it in perspective, you can do benchmark tests with SetCPU, and with the standard clock speed you'll get around 400-600 ms. With V1.0 and the cpu overclocked to 1.2Ghz, I'm getting around 160 ms consistently. Go for it, it'll take you about 20min from root to Beast and you'll be loving the difference (plus you can then wi-fi tether you're 2G with you're Droid too).

QFT man...I was on the fence too about rooting. I finally took the plunge and I was running CyanogenMod 5.0.6.2 from ROM Manager (Free). I was on the fence on spending 4 bucks on an app, DEFINITELY worth every penny! I had been watching the info on BB v1.0 for about 2 weeks prior to it coming out officially. Right when it came out, I immediately downloaded it! WOW, what a difference! For me, I just did the 1.0Ghz with Smoked-Glass theme and I am NOT looking back! The device is just SO MUCH faster! Derek, I completely recommend you go root and load up BB v1.0, with or without ROM Manager! You WON'T regret it!

my 2 cents...

Lulz, reading is the hard. He said he was using it on wi-fi.

Okay didnt read everything, but your point is? The 2g iphone is OLD!!! Maybe it is just me, but when someone compares a phone that is less than a year old to a phone that is 3 years old I would almost automatically think that the newer smart phone would be better. I'm glad that he likes android better, but I think it would be a more fair comparison if it was compared to the 3g or the 3gs.
