System Update/Battery Draining

Since I received the system update about a week ago, I have to charge my phone sometimes 2 x a day and I'm not using it. I used to get 2 days out of a charge. When I check the battery useage it shows com.android.systemui 31%, Android System 22% and google play 8% are my top 3 uses in the past 8h on this charge.

I didn't do a factory reset, I hate having to reinstall everything but if that works I'll try that after my battery gets higher than what it is 5% now

There is no guarantee that a Factory Data Reset will correct this problem.

I think it has been proven over and over and over and over that a Factory Data Reset is required after any major system update. Schedule it for when it is least disruptive for you and before you are backed into a corner (always at the most inconvenient time).

Without a Factory Data Reset there is always the possibility that it will fix a new problem that only appeared after the update.

There is no guarantee that a Factory Data Reset will correct this problem.

And there is no way of having reinstall everything after a factory reset, no way around it I mean. I've done a factory reset several times over the years but never after an update.

What happens is you get more organized because you know that a Factory Data Reset is in your near future and you plan around it.

I use Nova Launcher Prime and can save/restore much of the customizations I made. Tasker is the same way. The apps are just downloaded again from Paly Store.

Schedule and contacts are just re-syncing from Google.

I don't play games. People who do may have a problem in retaining progress data. It varies from game to game.

Like I said ... it forces you to get organized and come to the conclusion that the Factory Data Reset is inevitable.

(There will be a very few people who will point out that they have never done a Factory Data Reset.)

On the Droid Maxx ...
Started with an update immediately followed by a Factory Data Reset.
Numerous patches to 4.4 ... none of them major.
Update from 4.4 to 4.4.4 ... major.

Elsewhere ...
Update from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 ... probably major.
Patch to 4.4.4 ... not major ... I.F.F. a Factory Data Reset was done after the last major update.

Like others have mentioned, your best bet to get this problem is to do a clean factory reset. If that doesn't fix you could try rooting your phone, installing a custom rom and see if that takes care of the problem.

lol all good it hadn't finished syncing before i was making a my shortcuts again! Geez phew! not like I have factory resetted before but it felt like it.

Just wanted to report that I had not done a FDR since right after getting the 4.2.2 update. I have been struggling with very laggy screen redraws, slow switching from app to app, battery drain and various other problems. Yesterday, I decided to do the dreaded FDR. Despite the hassle of re-setting up home screen folders and all the other crap a FDR causes, it was WELL WORTH IT. It has really made a world of difference in the phone's performance. Like new again!

It is always worth a try. It can resolve a lot of performance issues and allow you to NOT do a Factory Data Reset.

Wipe Cache Partition is done as part of the Factory Data Reset (on the Droid Maxx it was not done under 4.4).

You have to remember that when you make a major change like these you then have to give it a few days to settle out. You do not see instantaneous results as the apps have to settle in. According to how many apps and the amount of usage this could be between 12 to 72 hours or even more.

As tanware stated below, you have to give it time. But also, apps that worked well under JB may not work as well under KK depending on how they were programmed. With KK, there were changes done under the hood to make the android system work more efficiently. However, if other apps were written that didn't make certain calls the correct way, or were programmed inefficiently, that could then affect it under KK. This is why app developers should always take their apps, recompile them under the new kernel and ensure they still work, both functionally and performance-wise. It could still work under KK, but it might be doing things that aren't as efficient under KK which can lead to poor performance as well as battery drain.

Well, I found another ROM image that is stock based (debloated and de-odexed) and I'm at 78% after 18.5 hours on battery. I'm getting about the same life as I did with CM11. This is with Greenify, ApOpsXposed and Unbounce modules installed.

Also, with GravityBox module, I can get the same type of tweaks in the UI that I get with CM11, but with this ROM, I can stream and watch my Google Play movies on my device which I couldn't do with CM11.

Love CM11, but this is just as good. The only issue is it's not 4.4.4, but stock does have the 4.4.4 security patches, and that's important.

You must have an unlocked bootloader and run TWRP custom recovery.

This also has better radio firmware patched into it, so WiFi signal (which wasn't an issue for me under CM11) should be better for those that experience issues.

I think the wifi issue, just like the dhcp, is dependent on the router. My trendnet has a setting for legacy that always broadcast (compatibility for some DHCP Clients). This with CM11 caused the DHCP issue and I think the wifi issue too. This as it constantly is being readdressed and probably then optimizing the wifi for power etc. This will be better seen once it is fixed.

it is better for some to have a bloat free stock rom as that listed. I think the stock 183.46.15 has the security patches just not the stock battery fix. greenify etc. should cure that though.
