Phone doesn't detect AUX cable

Hello everyone.
I'm having some trouble with my HTC One M8.
I recently bought a gold plated AUX cable to connect my phone to the car and play some music through the phone.
Unfortunately, the phone does not seem to detect the cable as earphones or anything when connected. It detects it for a few seconds then loses it.

I'll answer some questions before you ask in case you wonder:

1. I tried it on other phones (Galaxy S5/S3 to be precise) and it worked perfectly fine.

2. I went back to the store and switched it with another (same type of cable and same company). Still, nothing.

I hope you can help me with this because I'm not sure if it's something from the phone itself or some bug that has to do with the M8.

Thank you in advance.

I have had this same problem with certain headphones. Never with the ones supplied which actually seem quite good to my ears surprisingly.

And did you solve it in any way?

Is this a mirror cable or just a aux cable used to plug in head phones .

It's just a plain gold plated AUX cable plugged in the headphones jack.
