Is there any way to add more tv brands to the lg volts quick remote? we only have like 12 brands compared to the lg g2's quick remote. if i were to root. would i be able to take the apk of the lg g3's quick remote and put it on my lg volt? please tell me if i can side load it or not

p. s im currently unrooted. but when i was rooted (before the update) i attempted to side load the g3's quick remote but it said "application not in installed"

and would any of the app store remote control apps work on the volt??

I'm not rooted. I have a Coby brand TV which is not on the list. So I just picked Visio brand. The "Input" button does not work, but the Power, Mute, Volume, and Channel buttons do and that is all I care about. So you might try a different brand TV from the list and see if it works. It will step you thru it asking if the Power works, then the Mute, etc. and you answer Yes or No each time...

Basically, nothing, and hope they release a full version at some point. At least at this point.

I pay attention whenever I see a post from you on a subject I'm interested in as you seem very knowledgeable. Interested about LG Quick Remote, and the LG VOLT LS740 being usable as a remote for the A/V equipment I have.

LS740 arrives soon and I was getting excited about using it as a Media Remote... Then I read that LG has crippled the LS740..

Stupid me told the wife... Now I have to explain to her:
A: Quick Remote for LS740 largely is for controlling LG only devices /has a very limited database.
B: LS740 is using some kind of bastardized /proprietary API so ONLY LG Quick Remote works with it. Meaning that none of the apps on Google Play /elsewhere are going to work and if LG doesn't update Quick Remote, one of the main selling points is worthless.

If that turns out to be the case, I will remember such on future purchases.

Stupid question but what kind of "reason" or case could LG (Or one of the carriers) have for crippling the LS740 besides they want you to buy a more expensive phone?

(I guess the guy(s) or gal(s) that made the decision to lock down the api thinks everyone is made of money.)

Q: For those that follow LG, are they likely to update the database of the LS740 so it can control more devices based upon the past?
EG: Do a initial release, then patch it up in a timely manner... or do they have the mentally of alot of manufacturers in which they look at customers like mud that's been thrown up against a wall, the mud that sticks to the wall customers happy with the product /not affected by xyz problem, the mud that falls off unhappy customers... and they don't care about the mud that falls off the wall... the mindset being to "Push it out the Door" and they "might" get around to fixing core issues later, but what happens is key people get pulled off the project to be assigned to "new" product rollouts?

Q: What is the chance (Big ha-ha I'm sure) of LG rethinking the proprietary API?... based once again on what LG has done in the past when they do something that proves to be unpopular with the customer base.

Well thank you. :) I just do a lot of reading on here as my job involves a lot of travel where I'm not the one driving. :p

It's not even so much wanting you to buy a more expensive phone as a more expensive plan, IMO. The money is in the service, not the hardware. I wouldn't hold my breath on the API, unless someone discovers a workaround. They might update the app themselves, but again, don't hold your breath. It does do like the top 5 or 6 TV and cable box brands, and many off brands use the same codes. For example my Hisense TV uses LG codes, luckily.

If you have the right setup with CEC, you might be able to get some inter device synergy that way.

Try selecting LG during setup . It worked for me for my coby tv.

I had a LG Optimus L90 on T-Mobile and now sport an LG G Vista. Both my phone's have had this bastardized version of Quick remote on them. The G Vista only allows tv or cable box. Whereas the G2-G3(maybe G4) have full functionality. I don't really want to mess with rooting my phone to fix this, but this is crazy that a phone $100 more than mine has full function of the remote. The fact that you can't even use a third party app to allow the functionality is pathetic.

I just got the LG Volt, and was using the Quick Remote app just fine. Then it just stopped working. No idea why. Very annoyed.

See if you froze or deleted Unified EULA. I made the mistake of removing it thinking it was useless bloatware, but the remote wont work without it.

Xposed as well as Gravity Box and Greenify work fine with the remote. Hope this helps someone.

When you say Xposed works OK with the remote,do you mean allowing for more TV programming options via Xposed module? Just curious because as is its lacking greatly.

I was very excited when I first tried the LG Volt Quick Remote. I set it up for the TV, and it has a great user interface.

I then went to add the DVD player... wait... no DVD players or Bluray players? Then I went to add other devices... wait.. no devices besides some TV's and cable boxes?

Is this correct? Does the LG Volt Quick Remote ONLY work with TV's and cable boxes? Is there any way to add DVD players, Bluray players, amplifiers, soundbars, etc?

I tried seeing if some of the TV IR signals would control the other devices, but no go.

Is the LG Volt IR limited to just TV's and cable boxes? If it can't control other devices, it is pretty useless.
