My Phone is not charging

A bit drastic!

Seriously, to the OP, have you tried a different USB lead and charger? Is the USB port free of dust/lint. I'd check these first before rushing out for a new device! :)
Not drastic. I've had issues with [multiple] Samsung phones stopping charging or being unable to transfer data through the port. They have a history of problems with the USB ports on their phones.

I had to get the phones replaced.

Even if you seem to fix it, it is not worth it to risk it failing again when the phone is out of warranty.

Value your money. Get the phone replaced, ASAP.

If it's an older out of warranty model then it's gonna need a repair. I doubt the OP has yet to try a different cable or wall charger. We all have hoards of those.

He said any tips will help, and while the OP may have tried a different lead he may not have. He may have checked his USB slot for dust /other gunk, he may not have.

You have had lots of issues with USB connection on Samsung devices, I never have. I'm not saying you haven't or that my experience is the norm, it is just that I'd be a bit annoyed if I was the OP and bought a new device when replacing a micro USB to USB lead would do the trick.

That's why I said replacing the device was "a bit drastic", we reading from the OP's post, have absolutely no idea what they had or hadn't tried yet.

Mine does that, no matter what cable or plug you use, when you charge it via the the wall plug, it drops power, or at best maintains it. Funny thing is, when you charge it via Car, or through the USB socket on my iMac, it charges no problem.

The problem originally started this week, when I was away in a hotel and woke up to check my phone in the night, only to find it dead and unable to charge.

Luckily I'd bought a spare charger, which worked, but now even that one is not doing the job, nor is my one at home that previously worked before I went away. I have used a variety of wall plus/cables with no joy.

I have downloaded an app from the play store which shows 1200 going in via the wall plug and only 450 via a USB port, so this seems very strange

Can you confirm how long you've had the USB cable plug and if its loose when you insert it in, as opposed to a strong fit when you first inserted it?

Greetings :)

The fitting is pretty snug TBH

I now have an iPhone 6 plus as my daily phone, and am planning on selling this

I did a factory reset and the same problems appear to persist.

I have taken the battery out for 10 mins and put it back it to see if that helps. Gonna let the battery run down for a bit and if it still has the same problems, I will put it in for service

Well just to make sure, and also save you money, visit an Electronic store and test the Galaxy Charging application after asking the electronic store to plug in a wall charger which only has one USB connection, which plugs into the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

If you're using the stock charger that comes with the phone one of the sockets on both ends of the USB cord may have come loose, after which the phone will default to reduced current of 350 or 450mAh, which would make the battery deplete even when it's on charge, due to the amount of power the phone uses and the amount of power a fully functional charger outputs, of over 1100mAh.

Greetings :)
