Cross Platform Multiplayer Games

Righto, I've searched this for like 3 days and I either suck at search or you (yes, YOU) NEEED this.

I reckon we need to list ALL the cross-platform multiplayer games out there.
That is games that can be played Android vs. iPhone vs. Nokia vs. Facebook ect.
The premise here is all my friends have iPhones and Facebook (noone owns a nokia anymore but we'll include it for diversity's sake) and lonely old me sold off my slowPhone/iCrash and now have a Desire - BUT i still want to play multiplayer and i might even get a few to join the revolution when i showcase my superior controls/speed/installynessability etc.

I'll start:

Parallel Kingdom: Age of Emergence

Genre - Augmented Reality MMORPG
Tech - Uses GPS with Google maps, multiplayer over the net. Realtime.
Basic Idea - Run about and claim territory, wage war over territory, upgrade weapons, hunt for resources, craft stuff, build stuff, sell stuff.
Perks - Constant in game chat - ppl are sooooo friendly very helpful to n00bs (me)
Platforms - iPhone, Android

I think there is a lack of Cross platform games. I too was looking for something I could play with my son on his Touch but I came up empty. Even the game you state looks like it will not work for the lack of GPD on the Touch.

Bill

Bill, it will work without the GPS, just some fuctionality is lost (i turn location services off to save battery). You will find it easiest if your son sets up his account on a GPS enabled device (to get the rough location right) and then once set up and he has built a house, switch to the GPSless device and continue playing from there.

Some of the Storm8 games are cross platform socially aware - that is multiplayer, but turn based and not realtime.
That includes (at present): World War, Racing Live, and iMobsters
There are more on iPhone, which Storm8 look like they may be porting.
They all follow this same sort of format;

Genre - Credit/Turn based Strategy
Tech - Multiplayer over the net. Social.
Basic Idea - Perform tasks, gain money, XP, items, buy items, improve stats, upgrade stuff, be the best.
Perks - Fits around your lifestyle, Casual
Platforms - iPhone, Android

Even Pets Live now supports multi-platform multiplayer right?

Just wanted to bump this thread and mention that Parallel Kingdom just added a ton of new content...

  • New Monsters
  • New Skills
  • New Pets
  • New Weapons
  • And a new Dungeon (Dragon's Lair!)

The game is still growing fast and still free to download. Almost 200,000 players!

Gotta say that's one game I won't even bother with due to how much spam it's generated in the Market comments. Nearly every app I look at has one of these people spamming it up saying "use my code and you'll get all this cool crap". Invite code crap just supports this behavior and no good comes of it as far as I'm concerned. I just report them and add whatever game or website they're spamming about to my blacklist.

@snapcase - I agree that the referral code spam gets pretty annoying. I wish there was a better way to deal with it (like the Market giving the ability to delete comments, although this could easily bring up censorship issues).

In reality, the referral system as a whole provides a great incentive for players to get their friends to play, and we get quite a few new players as a result. Unfortunately the spam is a problem as well as people posting exaggerated rewards for the referral codes is another problem.

Have you heard of any other games that have successful referral systems without producing all the spam? If so, could you give some details about what makes them different/better?
