Hi
The battery on my phone started playing up a couple of months ago, then screen started flickering white and would freeze. Sometimes even if battery had just been charged and was showing a high percentage it would freeze and when I rebooted it would now be 3%. After this I would put back on charge and battery life would show 40 or 50%
I phoned EE (where I purchased phone) and they suggested a factory reset. After trying to avoid I relented this weekend and backed up data using Kies before performing the hard key reset. It seemed much better so I restored by backup, only for it to start freezing again.
I then did another reset and only put back on what I thought was necessary (contacts, calendar, messages) and kept off photos, apps etc.
Now I permanently have a message on my homescreen which is black box with yellow writing - first line says PDA:I9300XXUGMK6
Plus on turning phone on I briefly get a message to say phone is in factory mode - but it doesn't stay on long enough to read the full thing.
Worst of all it says there is no network available and I can't use phone or texts. I tried going into settings and choosing EE network but still doesn't work.
I don't understand rooting and have never done anything like this on the phone.
I am also still under contract until March 2015 (early upgrade Jan), so was hoping to limp through until then without having to spend any more money.
Any help is much appreciated!!!

Thank you for your help Mikestony.
I just purchased the root explorer app as per video but when i go on it says my phone needs to be rooted before it will work. Didn't really want to mess with things I don't understand and root the phone.
btw Battery problem is a lot better!! maybe because I can't do anything to drain it :-/

Had to follow instructions and root phone and managed to get it out of factory mode using your link above.
Still can't get it to make calls/texts. Keeps telling me it's not registered on a network. Have tried looking for networks - and when I choose EE it says it is connected. Any ideas what else I could try for this part?
Battery / flickering is better though not perfect.
Thank you

Battery / flickering is better though not perfect.
Thank you

Do you know anyone else with the same phone that would let you try their battery for a second just to rule that out? If the flicker still happens it sounds like you have a hardware issue on your hands. Your phone is still under warranty so this needs to be figured out first. It really sounds like you should just bring the phone in.

The network stuff should be fixable with odin. We should worry about the hardware stuff first, specifically that flicker. But if you really want to limp through it go to your root section and find the latest stock tar. Should be instructions to return to stock with odin.

There isn't anywhere local to take phone - I have to send phone away to be sorted and I am going on holiday next week so was trying to see if I could do something first.
Unfortunately I don't understand your last statement about latest stock tar? (which is why I was originally trying to find solution without rooting), would you be able to give me step by step instructions?

I think he was referring to
that you would have to obtain the stock ver its the android system firmware
that is saved as a tar file format example like .zip .rar .jpg
.tar

and you would have to flash your phone with stock XX.XX.XX.tar <----for an another example

and you would have to use odin to flash that stock tar file with it...
hope this is of any help to you. others may have more details then I do..

I have used odin and have successfully flashed over files to all of or most of my phones on my own.
I don't feel I would be any of assistance to you over you device as for I don't want to further your situation to become worst if for say it does... I do appreciate everyones help. I think there possibly is a problem with battery and hardware but my main focus now is just trying to be recognised on my network so I can make calls and send texts.
I have been searching the web for solutions and have tried using Kies Firmware Update and Initialisation and also ArizaPatch - neither of which worked.

I can't for the life of me work out how to do a prl or profile update. There is no system update option anywhere in the settings. The only 'update' I can find is software update under 'about device' but when i press that i get the message - "Failed to update software. Network or server error occurred. Try later or try using PC Kies"
When i go into Kies all I can see is an option to update firmware, but it tells me I have the latest version.

There isn't an option saying system update anywhere on my settings. Under 'About Device' (there isn't a 'About Phone') options are
Software Update
Status
Legal Information
Device Name
(then greyed out)
Model Number
Android Version
Baseband version
Kernel Version
Build Number

As I said in earlier post, I tried Software Update but get the message 'Failed to update software etc...'

Had a thought. When I plug into Kies it shows a different phone number to the one I use. I changed original sim number to my old one when I got this phone. Does factory reset change it back to original number? Is this why its not registered on network? And is there a way of changing back (or I presume I might just need to get in touch with EE)

Great thought but from example I have displayed in other rooms and anyone can correct me on this as well

I had a rather new android phone from jan 13 2014 and placed a sim card from that phone into a non android phone to be exact was a motorola razor zv3 flip phone and it worked just fine just missing the out dated features but went online txt send pics made calls and that thing never seen a charge in years

:)I will try to help you here with this
I had to put any and all risks out there for you to understand
that now you know this menu there that it is not just go help your self menu w/out proper knowledge involved any P&Q's are welcomed Post's and Questions.
let's ask before assuming and risking further damage over your devices as for this can and cause further damages over you devices..
that why this menu is a hidden menu not classed as help self serve menu
I have to go to the store it take me near 30 mins and I will be back to further this for you if your still up for it ????

Your signal worked fine untill you used kies, it does not sound like kies successfully flashed your rom. I still recommend Flashing the latest stock tar through odin. I can not point you in the right direction until we know your model number and carrier.

Just to clarify, You do not need root to use odin to do this. However it is best discussed in the root section for your device/carrier because later on someone could flash these files and have a different model. That could very well hardbrick someones phone and no one wants that.

I really really appreciate but please don't put yourself out. I will ask around some more and do some travelling to a store myself.

My Dear Friend jaid40 asking for help from others is never a bother to me nor to any & most that I talk with in here you have been a great support and most appreciative member I will add you to my other thread http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s3/875816-show-our-support-thank-our-developers-contributors.html#post6750460 as Most honest considerate Members Thank you good sir:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:.

It's just like for myself for an example I and others have talked to lately are just not liking the one's that come in these forums and just do a quick grab n go..

Just not fair to us that devote our times investing into resolving and be left with empty answers? to us and others? of well did that resolve and I'am finding for myself as well this being true that My response to them is how many times would you like to watch a movie and not get to know the ending of it ??????

:DIn the end it pays everyone off! not just us but to everyone included
remember that movie just may become your latest incomplete rom.. I feel due to lack of support to these hard working people. I have now found it to be correct to try to pay it back by helping them help others..

When all it takes is just a simple ------------------------>;) do the rite thing guys [THANKS] Done lmao...

I encourage you to feel welcome'd to come back at anytime if you choose to change your mind I will be really delighted to have been able to help someone rather than turn a cold shoulder any day.......

Appreciate your help. My model number is GT-I9300 carrier EE. I already have Odin installed from when Mikestony pointed me in the right direction to get phone out of factory mode.
Sorry - don't know how to move this into root section (or should I start a new thread?)
