I'm watching the Live stream of this tablet now on YouTube, but I can't think the point of this product. I know it's Samsung and they have Billions of $$ to make all the tablets they want, but I really can't think of the point of this tablet or how it really fits into the market.

Recently Samsung had released the Galaxy Note, Tab Pro 8, 10.1 and 12.2 tablets. 2560 X 1600 resolution for the Note Pro 12.2. The screen on the newer tablet's are great and maybe Samsung has improved it's screen technology, but do they really need a whole new device to show off this technology? From watching the live stream, the only selling point they show or are talking about is the screen as if it's the only thing about a tablet.

I don't see a place in the market for this tablet and don't see a point. I'm not a Samsung hater or anything like that, not trying to be bias, but I just don't see a point for this device.

I think that they should have just held onto what they have here, and used it in conjunction with other innovations to all new versions of their devices. For example, I don't think that Tab S should exist. I think that they should have taken what they innovated and placed it into the next version of their Galaxy Note/Pro/Tab tablets. A whole new device that only markets itself for the screen? It's like the iPad retina all over again, and what happened to the Retina? Rite... It was taken off the shelves right after the iPad 4 because there was no place in the market for it.

What do you guys think? Am I just being bias, or do you agree with me? Let me know... Thanks.

I will be sticking to my Galaxy Note 10.1 2012 edition, with Android 4.1.2 for now. I have never seen a paint in upgrading my tablet because it does everything that I need it too. (Now I sound like an XP user.)

They should have either the pro series or the s series but not both IMO.

Pro series I get. But now they have 5 lines of tablets with many variations and it makes no sense.
Tab series.
Tab pro
Note
Note pro
Now s series.

I think that they should just kill off the tab series completely and only have:
S series
Note pro (but not call it note pro just call it note).

Too many options will confuse the market.

Having just bought a Tab Pro 8.4 back in late February, I am NOT happy right now. I don't care about the screen that much, because the one on the Tab Pro is great. But had I known they'd be releasing a thinner tablet with 3gb of RAM and 32gb of storage in 4 months, I would've just waited.

So, what's next? A Galaxy Tab Pro S with a Snapdragon 801 in September? F-k you, Samsung :p

Yeah, I'm also one of those guys who bought a Tab Pro 8.4 mere days before learning about the release of the Tab S series. I do think it's a load of crap that they would give the Pro series such little spotlight time and then push it aside for the Tab S series. But rather than now clamoring over having 3GB of RAM vs the 2GB I got with the Pro 8.4 or the 32 GB of storage vs the 16 GB of storage I got with my Pro 8.4, I'm considering the fact that both CPUs are virtually on par with each other.

Unless you're a hardcore power user who tries to push the limits of the tablet's capabilities, 2 GB of RAM should be plenty for anybody. Heck, even 1 GB should be enough for the basics of video and games, assuming you're running one at a time. So really, while I do find it to be a dick move by Samsung to be so quick to render the Tab Pro series "obsolete" within mere months of its release with the Tab S series, it's still a powerhouse in its own right and there's plenty of power in the former to last for a while to come.

In much the same way, I'm going to be skipping the Galaxy S5 and possibly the S6 while holding on to my S4. The way I see it, it's whenever companies start releasing software that requires higher specs than what to Tab Pro series can comfortably handle, that I'll start considering a more powerful tablet. But that should be years before that happens. So Samsung can release as many new tablets in the next year as they want. I got what I wanted and see no reason to try to sell it off just for the sake of staying on top of owning the latest and the greatest.

Just be happy with what you got, assuming it was bought this year.

Nobody rendered anything obsolete. The pro series is every bit as good as the s series. It all just comes down to which screen you like better really. I prefer the tab pros LCD screen. To me the amoled screen in the tab s looks too dark and the colors are too saturated. The extra GB of ram is negated by all the extra bloat that the tab s has (pro series has bloat too, but not as much) that is constantly running in the background. And the snapdragon processor in the pro is actually faster that the octa core on the tab s.

I keep looking at these new Samsung tablets as something to use with my Nexus 7 (something a bit bigger and different) but I really cannot bring myself to do it. Honestly it makes more sense to pick up an iPad mini or something. Why? Because I suspect in order for the Samsung device to be updated, I will need a new next gen one with newer firmware.

Then the bloat. If they cut out even half the bloat, it would be more attractive. Don't get me wrong, I mean, Samsung devices still tempt me, a lot, the note III (which I had at one point but returned because it was defective, would not connect to the microcell tower and thus was useless at that point) and the bootloader locking and needing a PC to do anything with it (towelroot being the exception) in terms of modding.

I do agree that there seems to be little room for these newer tablets. They just keep cranking out things for every single nook and cranny they can find or make, and that over saturation is a real turn off to me.

Still some nice looking tablets however and depending on things, I may pick one up, but I need to keep reminding myself of the faults of the devices.

Personally I don't understand that. I like the fact whichever device I chose will be the best for what I want to spend.
I thought about an ipad but glad I bought this. If something bigger and better comes out I'll make a decision to buy or not.
Customer choice to me is important. Tech changes quickly but many brands don't update their models any more than annually.... Just thinking about a green fruit now.
Personally I'm not upset about it. If someone bought something that was released 3 months ago but now want the tab s, didn't they just make a poor decision to buy at that time? Many will remain happy with a device they bought previously. Tech is plateauxing. Something a few months old won't suddenly be crap just cos they released the tab s..... Although the screen is excellent ☺

ok so i know that this thread is slightly old but the tab s is by far the best tablet i ever owned......so there is a point in having the "s" line.

the way i see it the tab series and the note series are two different types of tablets. one is to utilize the s pen while the other is just a tablet.

now with the tab series, samsung has separated them into 3 groups a low end( the tab 4, a middle (tab pro), and a high end (the tab s) devices.

the tab s's screen is by far the best i have ever seen. and i love the fact that they went away from the cheap plasticky feel that they used to have in devices like the s3 a few years ago.

so like bonerp said....choice is good. i mainly bought this tablet because of the octa core processor and for the screen......best purchase i have made so far.

I aggree with ocnbrze comments.

This is the best screen I have seen on a Tablet, I have owned a Tab 2 7" and just recently a Note 8 with 3G and Wi-fi and they have all lacked a certain something.

The screen can be adjusted to 4 different settings, 'Adaptive Display' AMOLED Cinema' 'AMOLED Photo' and 'Basic' so there has to be a setting that suits almost everyone.

The point that was made as to 'why?' I think is simple, not everyone already owns a Galaxy device and by expanding the range even further this gives a lot more freedom of choice to new buyers and those with a lot older tablets.

Also have to agree and I'm surprised there's not many posts here about it...

i think it is because not many people own tablets, let alone a high end tablet like the tab s, though the market is ever increasing. i thik i read that those who have tablets rarely upgrade compared to upgrading phones. some people consider a tablet like a computer and thus tend to hold on to it much longer. thus the need for ewer tablets is minimal.

I disagree with your description of the tab pro as the middle of the line-up. The S may be newer but the specs are the same. The difference between the screens is the technology. Some people actually prefer lcd over led and it is widely accepted that lcd is superior when it comes to sharpness. As for the processors, if you have a wi-fi S 8.4 you have the Samsung processor that the Snapdragon 800 has outperformed in every benchmark test, the LTE version actually has the same SD800 as the Pro model.
