Nexus 7 2012 to get 5.0 Lollipop

Has anyone else noticed their devices downloading something then rebooting?

I'm clean for malware etc and it's not a play update of an app, but it's downloading something then rebooting as before it does it everything slows right down (yes more than normal for a v1)

Somethings going on, and wondered if it's something in the background to ready for Lollipop?

It looks like the roll-out has started Lollipop Rollout.

Be interesting to see which area gets it first.

They pushed source for the nexus 9 and nexus player to AOSP, but thats about it.

Nexus updates don't go out by region, so thats nothing to worry about :D. Google does a staged rollout, with each device having X% chance of getting the update when it checks in during a certain time period.

not sure with the OTA. I've read that sometimes the OTA might be screwed up if the device is rooted. were it me, I'd return it to stock just in case, with the nexus root toolkit. google it.

as for me, i flashed the factory image, which pretty much simply fuses an image over the system. it wipes everything, including custom recovery. so i flashed the lollipop image, then downloaded and flashed the twrp custom recovery, and then had the nexus root toolkit root it for me.

so i am now the proud owner of a Nexus 7 2012 running 5.0, with a custom recovery and rooted! this is pretty much the first time i've gone the fastboot/adb route, so it was a nice learning experience, and i'm glad i did it.

I made a nandroid of my N7 last night and flashed Loly.. This morning by 11am I had restored my 4.4.4 nandroid.

Many of my root apps do not work, others seem unstable. All the Google services work great, I am loving the automatic picture backup of photos and having them almost instantly on either of my devices.

I was really surprised an app like TSTO was having issues, but then again there were probably so many changes to the developer version that most app makers are just waiting for the full release to final and then work on their apps.

Please for the love of god make a backup of your apps with helium, a nandroid with custom recovery if you are rooted, and copy or move pictures, contacts, and what not off your devices before updating!!

If you are rooted and use Titanium, there is an issue with the version of Titanium on the market and all previous versions that will prevent TB from detecting root.

There is a beta version available here that fixes that issue - https://twitter.com/TitaniumBackup/status/532645824883593216

Happy flashing and updating folks, remember, get your data backed up first.

Edit/add on - Flash at this point is utterly broken in loly.

Well, his has been running about 240 seconds on the boot animation, so we'll see. I honestly can't remember if I did the ANT conversion on his, so I probably didn't. It may be that.:dontknow:

edit: wow, slow update here. I just got a never before seen "Android" spalsh screen and now I'm getting the white box with Optimizing x of 200 apps (I think this is the ANT conversion step). I'll post back what ever else happens. I've done a bunch of OTA's and this is the slowest I've seen, so anyone else going through it be very patient.

I received the OTA yesterday. I am rooted so I unrooted and the OTA is now gone. Is there another way to put 5.0 on my nexus?
Menu/settings/about tablet/system update. Check for updates.
You need to ensure you are also running the stock recovery, and stock kernel if by chance you changed it.

Wugs Nexus Root Toolkit can flash the stock kernel and recovery, not to mention it can flash the factory image for 5.0.

OTA's often go wrong after messing with unrooting and what not so make sure your tablet data and media is backed up before you trigger the OTA or use NRT to flash 5.0 as that will erase it.

Use Titanium backup or Helium to backup your app data and get the backup files off the tablet.

Good luck.
