It's back. Still no phones, of course, so it's really a moot point but the free 6 months of Google Play Music for phones ordered prior to the end of the year is back up. My rational side is desperately trying to reign in my super-optimistic side to not read too much into this . . . such as having a big lot of phones that they'll be releasing to the Play store real soon.

I still think people will be able to walk into a T-mobile store and buy one before my pre-order ships haha

Oh, I agree and I like this security feature.

However, it now opens the door for carriers to disable/remove the option (*cough* verizon *cough*) if they so choose. And in using their new "sim based post-setup/configuration" it would mean an unlockable Nexus 6 from the play store would get "locked down" when you boot it with a Verizon sim. Whether you can get into stock recovery to undo that I dunno. But to err on the side of caution, if you plan to unlock the bootloader and you're on Verizon, I'd boot it up without the Verizon sim card first, check that option, fastboot oem unlock it, then boot with the Verizon sim card.

So how do you "Fastboot OEM unlock" Terminal emulator? I plan on buying from the V-store. Would be nice to say "hang on, before you sim and boot, can I see it real quick? [unlock] OK, now you can activate it" :)

The device needs to be in fastboot (bootloader) mode tethered to a computer, then using the fastboot sdk tool provided by Google and use the command line/terminal in order to execute the command.

Not anymore. I'll have to dig up the article, but apparently you can now unlock the bootloader from the developer options menu in settings.

You need to enable that option in developer options before the unlock command will work. It doesn't actually unlock it from what I've heard. Unless there's something new that I've missed.

That is what I heard initially, too. But there was an article yesterday indicating it could be done without fastboot.

Found it: http://www.androidheadlines.com/page/2

Sounds like that person doesn't know what they're doing. It's just be a way to ALLOW use of fastboot oem unlock as we thought. I think that author is just confused.

Google support was as clueless as everyone else and was probably confused with the nexus 9.

According to a UK tweet their release is Dec. 1st.

Agreed. Mine still shows a ship date of 11/21.

I think T-Mobile folks will have theirs before I do lol.

The good news is that it should leave plenty of time for the people buying T-mobile ones and taking them to Verizon to iron out any issues there so when I get mine, I'll be able to just walk into the Verizon store, ask for a nano sim, pop it in and be on my way. :p

I am actually thinking about picking one up on contract from at&t since I have an upgrade. And I've broken two n5s and have a third. I should of had gotten insurance and with this big chunky device and its cost it may be a good idea for Mr butterfingers here.

About that check box, well when you set the device up first thing you still need to enable dev options so I don't think one extra check box is going to be that much of an issue.

As much as I'd like to see pre-orders shipping this week, I just don't think it'll happen. I really, REALLY hope I'm wrong. lol... I'd love to get mine this week.

What WILL annoy me though, is if it isn't here by the 12th when t-mobile starts selling them. What's the point of a pre-order (which was horrible) if you don't receive your phone before, or at the very least at the same time as in the stores?

:shrugs: I've set my mind that I won't see mine until the 21st or so. If it comes sooner? Christmas early! lol :)

Have a great day all!

Mark my words, it's going to happen. I'll be a little peeved, too, but it's worth it IMHO to get it through the play store due to their excellent support and ease of RMA/returns.

But I really do think T-mobile stores will have them first. Didn't that happen with the Nexus 4, too?

Great point, play store is a MUCH better place to buy them from, even if you have to wait.

Did anyone else just try to get the Nexus 9 deal from HTC for half off.

I tried.

Guess how well that went?

I couldn't help but laugh.

I saw the site early enough that I *think* I could have gotten in on it. If it had been the 32gb model on sale I probably would have jumped on it. But 16gb is just too small for me. The missus might have been okay with it, but she's perfectly happy with her 2013 Nexus 7, so she's not looking to upgrade at this point.

I wouldn't mind getting a new 2013 model again. That is if 5.0 doesn't fix the problems mine has been having?

We both have 2013 Nexus 7 tablets. The only difference is that hers is the 16gb model, while mine is 32gb. Both are unlocked and rooted, although the only real app that we use that requires root is an ad blocker.

Having the Nexus 7 tablet is what made me fall in love with stock android, and is one of the main reasons why I want to get the Nexus 6 over some of it's competitors.

Speaking of the Nexus 6, does anyone have any experience ordering from Motorola? I'm thinking that if it doesn't come back into stock at the Play store anytime soon, it might be a good idea to grab it directly from the manufacturer, assuming they open up orders in a timely fashion. I'm still a little leery about getting it directly from one of the carriers. I know, objectively, it should be the exact same model as the ones sold by Google or Motorola, but I can't help thinking that they'll screw it up somehow (I'm looking at you here, Verizon).

My page monitor went off and the nexus page says they plan on selling more at the play store every Wednesday. They list the carriers but no Verizon....I know it works on Verizon but maybe Verizon is only going that far and isn't stocking it.

I just saw that as well. Interesting wording that they say get more "in stock" to sell. Which means, to me anyways, that the pre-order was only for phones they had currently in stock.

If they have them in stock for those pre-ordered, then hopefully they'll send them out sooner rather than later. :)

Lol.. Perhaps? lol :smokingsomb:

Not going to bother till tomorrow morning (8am). Hopefully, page monitor will keep me updated after that :)

El Goog - ya think this is a big ^#&*%@ game huh??? What is your problem in just letting everyone pre-order and then ship out in order received? </rant>
