Root Android Lollipop?

Theres not even any plans on cyanogen working on android 5.0/ lollipop until a usable source is available as of now everything is speculation
Exactly, the Nexus 6 will be available later this month and the source will shortly be released as per the norm. The developers preview was incomplete at best and as Earl mentioned the CM team didn't want to work with it until the full official source code was released. So it shouldn't be long now with preorders around the corner. :)

Never understood that my self. I mean I know people want to try the latest thing, but for actual daily use...L will never run right on this device due to memory constraints..among others most likely. This device is prime for droid versions between 4.0/4.4 at best. And 4.4 is pushing it. I just came from a device where everyone and I mean everyone was obsessed with the latest even though they already knew it would run like crap on their device. And sure enough most releases did. 4.1.2 was the best that the One V saw. Everything else ran bad or had 1000 issues of incompatibility. At least for me,I would rather stick with things compatible and within the devices memory requirements.

Well according to minimal hardware requirements it will run on a 512MB ram device just like KitKat & if I'm being honest L seems to perform better than KitKat did on my Nexus. The Optimus Elite handled KitKat fairly well like your One V it was a single core 1ghz/512mb device... So if that holds true it should run fine on the Awe. L is being designed and prepped for 64bit chip architecture which will be something to see in the future as far as 3rd party apps go. (Of course that doesn't matter for the Awe or any current device.)
However I'd love to see a pure AOSP 4.1.2 of Bugless Beast built for this phone. Eventhough its a deprecated Android version it would allow for a massive amount of modifications. Things that are really hard and time consuming on the ZTE altered software would be cut and paste on AOSP.

I've been saying this since day one, but was told it would be a step backwards in development. However I must agree we've come too far to go back now. I just hope that when/if L drops on our phone production continues on what we got until there's nothing left to do...and there's ALWAYS something to do ^_^

The article said source wasn't released yet...?

Says its being pushed to AOSP... The code is showing up for player, 6 and 9. It takes time.
Nexus9 full image is now availae. Phones should be in the coming week...just to give you an idea of how huge of an update this is...here's a quote from an article I read...
"The initial changelog for 5.0.0_r2 is pretty substantial, weighing in at just over 128,680 commits. Yeah, Android 5.0 Lollipop is*huge"
