Thinking about rooting my VZW M8 and loading Cyanogen mod on it. There don't seem to be any major issues on their site regarding the phone, but I'm a bit nervous about doing it. I haven't done anything with ROMs since my Thunderbolt...

Just a few questions:

  1. How difficult is it to put Cyanogenmod on a VZW M8?
  2. Has anyone experienced poor battery life with Cyanogenmod on the M8?
  3. I can just flash back to stock from the ROM I can download off the HTC Dev site right?
  4. Anyone do this with a device on an Edge plan and have issues?

I did a quick search on this forum but didn't see much on this. Any information would be great! Thanks!

Just realized I upgraded to stock 4.4.4... I'm pretty much SOL at this point right?

Do you have s-off? If not you'll probably have to wait till Sunshine 3.0 The only two things that bothers me about CM is it doesn't have a stable release yet. I've thought about it though, especially now that I've found a good rru to get back to stock.

No S-Off yet. I'll keep an eye out for Sunshine 3.0. I didn't realize Cyangen didn't have a stable build for the M8 yet... I thought I saw one on their site. Must have misread it. Thanks!

I just loaded the latest nightly of CM11 last night. It's really easy to do if you have 4.4.3, S-off, and are rooted. I followed these easy instructions from this Youtube video.

Keep in mind that you'll lose all things Sense-related. For example, the swipe-up gesture to wake the screen does not work (but double-tapping does). Also, the HTC camera app won't work from what I'm reading, and the CM11 camera app appears to be relatively featureless so far. I do miss that a lot.

Cm does nightlies and monthly milestones, they don't do stable releases any longer. That is what the mile stone is. I am running cm11m11 and only ran sense for an hour or so so I have no real comparison. I like cm and didn't care much for sense at first glance.

I did have a problem with my GPS when I switched so I had to make a new GPS.conf file and then it worked fine.

I find the signal weak and the battery life horrible (mostly because of the poor signal) unsure if this is the device or the ROM. My wife and kids have a moto x and have lte signal inside the house (2' adobe walls 13+ miles from the closest tower) but I only get 1-3x (mostly 1x) if any data.

Thanks for pointing that out, I had no idea they no longer did stable releases and replaced them with mile stones.
Still, on VZW M8 no ability to gain s-off under 4.4.4 (unless you already had it) closes this option as well as most other custom ROMs at least till Sunshine 3.0(or whatever) is out.
