Samsung Moment 2 passes through FCC, what does that mean for release date?

SPH M910 passes through FCC - SprintUsers.com

As I asked in the above thread. Once the phone passes through the FCC, what is the turn around time from then to the release date? As I also mentioned in the above thread. I have been waiting and waiting for the 2.1 to be released to the Samsung Moment to actually purchase the phone and extend my contract. Is the release close enough that I should wait for the Samsung 2 to come out?

At least the early rumors gave the M2 a slightly interesting digital tv. The current (and most likely) rumors have it being the same old Moment with a slightly better keyboard (good) and touchwiz (very very bad). If the rumors don't have substantial errors in the specs, this isn't even an upgrade. As it stands, M2 is going to be a bust even when compared to the Moment, which hasn't exactly set the world on fire sales wise. Frankly, the Moment is the first Samsung phone I've owned and if it's taught me one thing, it's to not buy another Samsung phone.

The keyboard is fine, but touchwiz is a deal killer. Wait out the Evo if you can.

I dont want the Evo as I want a full keyboard, so its either Samsung Moment when official 2.1 Android is out or the Samsung Moment 2. I rather wait for the Moment 2 if its not much longer after the FCC approves it.

I'm with you on the keyboard, but life's a compromise. If the choice is first gen hardware from Samsung with touchwiz and a keyboard or second gen HTC device without a Keyboard? Goodbye keyboard.

There's no timetable from when a phone passes FCC, but I would guess it would be a month or so for crapware adding and network testing. Since it will be a "new model", it will probably debut at a relatively high price. Since there's so little hardware improvement for the m2, if you can find a cheap deal on the Moment ($100 now, maybe cheaper as the m2 approaches?) it might end up the better choice. The keyboard layout on the Moment might take a little getting used to, but once you do it's fine. In other words, it's not the Droid.

Actually it doesn't have "touchwiz". It has "touchwiz 3.0" which is a HUGE difference! From what I've seen of touchwiz 3.0 on the Galaxy S, it looks very nice in comparison to touchwiz 1.0.

Just thought I'd add that tid bit. And also as a side note, the only way Id get the Moment 2 is if I can trade in my Moment 1 to get it for a very low price and have it not be my upgrade at all (wanna save it for a really high end device).

What do you, or anyone that reads this question, think the Samsung Moment 2 will cost with a 2 year upgrade when it comes out? What did the Samsung Moment cost with an upgrade when it first came out?

The Moment was $180 at release. With true 2 gen stuff like the Incredible going for $200 on Verizon, Sprint would be insane to keep that price for the Moment 2. I'm >guessing< Somewhere in the $130-$150 range.

Point taken. Still if the choice is between Touchwiz x.x vs. Sense, I'm going sense. HTC treats their Android phones as it's bread and butter buisness, Samsung treats the Moment like it's a hobby.

Unless there's some hidden surprise super-battery-saving-3d-accelerating-gps-improving super chip that has escaped all the leaked spec pages, the Moment 2 would be a total waste of an upgrade for any current Moment owner.

I totally agree...

If I can get this phone for a reasonable pricee without it wasting my upgrade discount in November, I will.

Can you give a newbie a little more info and enlightment on this touchwiz 3.0. As from what I have read, this is the "big" deal improvement over the current Moment. It seems you know what the touchwiz 3.0 is about. Please let me know.

I hope it's released within 30 days of the FCC clearance. That's optimistic, but I always hope for the best case and deal with whatever happens. TW 3.0 looks decent.

I'm hoping Sprint releases the 2.1 update for SM1 owners this week and then releases the SM2 in early June. Waiting until Q3 or Q4 to release SM2 will probably only hurt it's sales because so many other options will be available by then. In addition, Samsung needs a bonified hot mid-level phone on Sprint and the SM1 just didn't create the impact Samsung and Sprint needed.
