Nexus 6 teardown (IFIXIT)/build quality thread

Nexus 6 users complaining... some examples from Reddit:

Motorola has had problems keeping their battery covers on for the LONGEST time. OG Motorola Droid users will remember the days of the sliding metal back, with the two fingers that slid under the phone's frame, constantly coming off:

I've been hearing from a lot of friends all over the interwebz that their new Nexus 6 covers are falling off as well. Sometimes right out of the box things don't look right. Sometimes it takes a week or two for the back cover to jiggle out of position. But it doesn't seem to be an isolated incident... it's happening to quite a bit of people.

Nexus 6 owners: is it happening to you? You may not be alone... I've also had friends with the Moto X and Motorola Droid Turbo report similar experiences. Is this an altogether Motorola problem?

Post pictures below if this is happening to you! And if you know how to best fix it with a DIY solution, let us know!

I'm sorry to see this guys. :(

This will definitely be covered by manufacturer warranty if you're outside of your return windows.

As I understand it, the back panel is a flexible plastic that's essentially just glued on. Just a guess, but I'd assume that the adhesive wasn't spread properly, or if it's a double-side tape of sorts it may have been touched in some areas. I'd imagine that could cause the panel to come loose like your images depict.

On the moto x, you hear complaints for the wood backs. I have a plastic one, had it for almost a month and it still seems fine.. If it does come up in the near future, I'm hoping there will be some person selling new backs for them! I would love to get a leather one now that I felt it. Or possibly Motorola would replace it.

Today, after seeing how much resistance there is behind the middle of the cover (suspecting an expanding battery), I left the phone alone for about an hour - and I come back to *both* sides pulling apart.

It goes back tomorrow. I bought mine from Motorola.com and the CSR there said I would be receiving a new phone, not a refurb.

I like Sean's idea though - instead of leather, though, I think I want carbon fiber for mine.

I swore up and down backwards I would never buy a sealed battery device.

I should have stuck to my guns....
I actually don't mind sealed batteries as I used to, as most phones have decent battery life (HTC ONE M8 & 1+1 come to mind) vs. a couple years ago.
Just havin' a bit of fun @ MOTO's expense. :D
From my past experiences w/MOTO, they've been one of the better, if not the best mfg in honoring warranties w/o any hassles or expense added.
Hopefully this holds true for those affected w/the faulty back cover. :)
