Trying to find out if this vibration noise is normal or not on the N6:

I know it's a strong/buzzy vibrator but particularly the clicking is what seems like it's not right.

An easy way I found to test this is to grab this app:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anthonyquarella.vibratetester

And then in the Auto tab, enter: 30.30.30 and check the "Repeat Pattern" check box, then tap "Run pattern...". For me, it does sound very much like the sound clip above - kind of a metallic click. Is this just "normal" for the N6? Should I RMA? Kind of sounds like something hallow and metallic rattling around inside something.

30 milliseconds is an awfully short time to test. I don't think it even has enough time to get to full vibration. Mine does a similar rattle sound at 30.30.30. Try 300.300.300 and you should get a solid vibration. Nothing wrong with it.
It absolutely is if you are mimicking typing quickly on the keyboard! That's why I picked it. Obviously longer vibration periods will be louder and more forcefully and mask the clicking, but even then I can hear it.

Thanks, I guess I will find out Monday when my RMA arrives. :)

Indeed, the vibration motor was defective on the first device. Unfortunately, my RMA device had 1/2 the screen pink and 1/2 the screen yellow. The non-uniformity looked really bad on whites or grays and was easily noticeable in splash screens and on gray-ish launcher backgrounds. I RMA'd that one, and the 3rd one is the same as the 2nd (motor OK, pink tint in ~1/3 of the screen this time in the upper left and really pink). I am giving up for now. I'll check back in January when hopefully they've improved the QC on their AMOLED panels.
