Help Help restoring contacts

Hey guys,

hoping you can help know a solution to this. My girlfriend restored her phone using the factory restore. before she did she tried doing a back up sync to google (which apparently didn't work) and also copied and pasted her files from her phone and SD card onto her computer. after the factory restore she found that her contacts are missing and only 4 were restored (from google). when we log into her Gmail we only see those 4 contacts but none of the others. Is there a way to restore the contacts from the files that she copied? i assume they're hidden in one of these folders or we may need another tool to extract them.

any ideas?

Actually the contacts are not stored on the sd card (internal or external) unless she exported them from the contacts app or ran some other contact backup. The contacts database lives in an area of internal storage which an unrooted user can't see or access directly.

My guess is that only 4 of the contacts were stored as Google contacts, and the rest as phone only contacts (which are not synced with GMail).

Unfortunately unless she did one of the things I mentioned in the first paragraph (i.e. made another backup at some point) I don't know of any way of getting them back now.

she didnt just back up her SD card she backed up her internal phone storage as well. her phone is not rooted so does that mean those files are hidden or simply didnt get copied over?

It means they did not copy. You only backed up internal storage (internal SD) contacts are stored in the system. You need to back them up in the contacts app. There is a setting to export contacts.

I had t'he same problem...factory resets are a PIA. She might have had 'backup asst' without knowing it which backs up ur contacts w/o any effort on your part. I find that the good people manning the samsung counters at Best Buy are a great help. Give them a try.

If you havent used the phone for a long while since the factory reset, you can get the contacts back. If you have been using your phone for a week or so, then its just a matter of trying because your phone will have created a new restore point from the factory reset.

Do this; download Dr.fone, and run it on your computer, it should recognise your device(if genuine) and it should allow you to restore everything including images, contacts, messages and other important data. then you can restore them into your device by following on screen instructions. Remember this will only work if your device hasn't created a new restore point(hasn't been in use)

ah great idea but unfortunately she's been using the phone for the last week

Just try it any way, you never know, you might still be able to restore the contacts!!
