Root [Verizon] VS980 Bricked

Hey all. So I bricked my phone. I flashed the wrong phone model CWM onto my VS980 now it stays in Fastboot mode.
It's been bricked for nearly a week now and I can't seem to get any help.

When I plug it into my computer, it's not recognizable on it even with the drivers installed.
So today I tried ubuntu and I got a line on my phone that says "fastboot: processing commands" I thought that was good so I went ahead and got the things I need for ubuntu and followed a guide: [FIX] NO Recovery mode, No download mode, af… - Pg. 141 | LG G2 | XDA Forums

Heres what I got:
When I do the /dev/sd* mine shows:

[HIGH]root@ubuntu:~# ls /dev/sd*
/dev/sda /dev/sda1 /dev/sda2 /dev/sda3 /dev/sda5 /dev/sda6[/HIGH]
So using what I got I moved onto the next step gdisk -l /dev/sdb I got:

[HIGH]root@ubuntu:~# gdisk -l /dev/sdb
GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 0.8.8

Problem opening /dev/sdb for reading! Error is 2.
The specified file does not exist![/HIGH]
So since mine showed "sda" and not "sdb" I tried it with the highest number I had (6) with sda. I got:

[HIGH]root@ubuntu:~# gdisk -l /dev/sda6
GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 0.8.8

Partition table scan:
MBR: not present
BSD: not present
APM: not present
GPT: not present

Creating new GPT entries.
Disk /dev/sda6: 147367936 sectors, 70.3 GiB
Logical sector size: 512 bytes
Disk identifier (GUID): 914599DB-77C6-4F8A-87B9-7DD5A240D111
Partition table holds up to 128 entries
First usable sector is 34, last usable sector is 147367902
Partitions will be aligned on 2048-sector boundaries
Total free space is 147367869 sectors (70.3 GiB)

Number Start (sector) End (sector) Size Code Name[/HIGH]

I am so lost and I don't know what I'm doing wrong and I don't know what else to do. All the guides I've found online, have not done me any good. So again, I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Can someone please please please help me.
Thanks in advance

Do you have a VS980 like the OP? Your are stuck in "fastboot mode"?

If yes to the above 2 questions, do you have the Android sdk or another tool to run adb/fastboot commands? To answer you question, yes it's fixable.

Version is d800 I think. I can download android SDK or another tool, no problem. I'm not familiar with linux, so little problems become so big for me...

I'm following the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48765620#post48765620 but I get error: "Problem opening /dev/sdb for reading! Error is 2. The specified file does not exist!" after the command "gdisk -l /dev/sdb"

If your screen shows "fastboot mode" when trying to boot into download mode, you don't need Linux and you don't need those instructions. The fastboot mode fix can be done on any pc running windows, os x, or linux.

If you're truly in qhsusb_bulk mode...which can be verified by how the phone is showing up in windows device manager, then you will in fact need linux.

Why do you "think" its a d800? Do you think the phone's been tampered with and contains different internals than what the model info says on the rear cover? I ask because this has become a common thing for people to find especially when buying d802's.

When trying to open, after LG logo displays, only black screen comes and nothing more. Also the same black screen, when trying to open download mode. And when connect to pc, a lot of unformatted drives appears, ask for formatting. I formatted one of them by mistake.

Model is D802, it's written behind the phone, I wrote false above...

It's written QHSUSB_BULK in device manager....

I also found some videos in YouTube, I'm not sure they work for my situation...

The first vid would likely work but it's way more than you need to do and they're confusing. I've seen one or both a couple times and still can't watch all the way through because there's so many steps. The 2nd vid I cannot account for as I've never seen a fix for the 9008 mode. It seems to me, you have the 9006 mode right now (qhsusb_bulk).

I can give you step by step instructs but I still have one major concern...you originally thought the phone was a d800. You might be right on that. If you bought this phone used and it says d802 on the back, it may not be a d802. What people have been doing on a VERY regular basis is swapping out the back plate on the phone with a d802 backplate and then selling it as a d802.

This is bad because we would try to flash the wrong firmware if that were the case and you could end up with a permanent brick. If you are in ANY doubt as to this, I very highly advise that you pull off the back cover, its not particularly hard to do , just takes a little patience and something to pry it off with. There's a bunch of videos on that. The model number is marked on a board inside there. That is the only way to be sure. It's the internals that matter.

Up to you. Tell me how you want to proceed and I can provide instructs accordingly.

I'm the first owner of this phone, it's written D802 and when I look in Google Play device info it says D802 :) So I wanna continue as D802.

Thank you for your interest and support

Sounds good. Is it a 16 GB or 32 GB D802? And if you care to say, what region would it be located in. We can potentially narrow down which firmware would be the most likely (and best) option with that info. There are a lot of slight variations with the D802 as it relates to firmware but the 16/32 storage size is a must to know.

While you're at it, you can prepare your Linux environment. What you can do is install Linux to a usb flash drive (2 GB minimum). First insert the usb stick into your windows machine and when it pops up, right click and format it to FAT32.

Go HERE and download Ubuntu 14.04. For your needs, likely the 32 bit version will do just fine. But if you have a 64 bit machine, you may want to download that instead.

Once you have the ISO file downloaded to your PC, download THIS. That little program will burn the ISO onto the USB stick for you. You can't just drag and drop an ISO onto a drive. Instead it needs to be made bootable and that program does all the smoke and mirrors stuff for you.

Once that's done, figure out which F-key or other key combination is required to bring up your PC's BIOS settings. Change the boot order such that the first bootable item is the usb flash drive. (it's called different things depending on bios version...flash drive, usb-hdd, etc). Save bios settings and exit, then reboot your machine with the usb stick plugged into the pc.

You should soon see a screen asking you to install or try ubuntu, choose the option to try. At that point, you're in ubuntu and it'll run just like a normal OS only a little slower. On the very upper left corner of the screen is a button with the ubuntu logo on it. Click on that and search for "terminal". Once it shows, click on it and you'll be ready to issue commands.

You will also need to open Firefox browser and make sure you have an active connection to the internet. If all goes well, it'll already be connected and you won't need to do anything special on that. You'll need to download the partitions that you will flash to the phone to restore a working download mode.

More on where to get those and the actual commands later. I want to make sure you're set up and ready before going into that.

Using Firefox on ubuntu, go to the following, and download the partitions for aboot, boot, dbi, laf, rpm, sbl1, and tz by left clicking on each and then waiting for the popup to save to your PC:

(To be congruent with some partial instructs I will link, try to save all the partitions to the "Desktop" location in Ubuntu.)

You'll see that some of those partitions have a number and dash at the beginning of the filenames. Rename those to remove any numbers/dashes so you end up with files called simply aboot.img, boot.img, dbi.img, etc.

Now go to the following link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142

You already have the partitions you need and the ones YOU have are the only ones you're going to dd write (flash). Not the ones they have listed there. What we are doing is flashing the entire bootstack to your phone. Yes, it's older firmware but that will work fine to get download mode back. At which point you can reflash stock.

So for now, follow the xda link up to the point where you get your partition table that lists all the partitions and their numbers. It MAY actually match the list they have there since that thread was made using a D802. However, we need to be absolutely sure because dd writing partitions is an absolute thing. Once you get the partition numbers, go ahead and see if you can make up a command list that you'll use to write all your partitions. Post it here first so we can look it over together.

If you're wondering about your exact path to any of the files on your "desktop", right click on one of them and look at properties. It'll list the whole path for you.
