Root [Sprint/Cricket] Is it time to get a new phone?

My battery life has been crap these last few days. It used to last me at least the whole day. Now after an hour of use, it went from 100 down to 65. I have clean master installed and my stats say its mostly the screen which is using the most battery. And my brightness is down as low as possible.

Not sure where the drain is or maybe its on the end of it's battery life. I just don't wanna fork over a bunch of money for a new flagship phone, cause I'm cheap. :-X

Thoughts?

Wow try a reset if it Dont help you may need a new battery are you rooted

Yeah. I've restarted it multiple times hoping it would do the trick and it hasnt. :-( even my Google maps is super laggy after about 15-20 minutes of use which is the main reason why I'm really considering upgrading.

I rooted my phone probably 8 months ago with CM. Setcpu is pretty rough on my phone, and it gets pretty laggy and glitchy when I have it enabled

Reset is not restart. If you have a custom recovery installed like CWM or TWRP go in and wipe cache and Dalvik.

Use Clean Master only for cleaning caches and temp files - NOTHING else.

Setcpu is usually a big power hog and ought to be avoided as well.

Ah I see. If I don't have a custom recovery installed am I shit out of luck? (I have pretty bad memory so I don't remember if I do) unless it does it automatically when I rooted it with CM.

Ok, so - a factory data reset does this:

• clears cache
• clears Dalvik (another, special cache)
• uninstalls all apps and your data, and so therefore clears everything else up

Most problems are in the first two places, so if you can get to them apart from the factory data reset, you won't have to restore your stuff. Custom recoveries let you do that - and hence, my advice to clear those two.

But if you don't have a custom recovery - no big deal. Just make a backup of all of your stuff, Titanium Backup is probably the most popular, I like MyBackup Root (that doesn't really do everything but does as much as I like), anyway - do a backup, then factory data reset, then restore your stuff.

Unless you're running out of storage from too many apps (and don't ask how many is too many, it depends on their size, etc) then most problems will get fixed by the factory data reset.

My recommendation would be get a new battery. I recommend the ones from Anker. That solved my battery problem which was much the same as yours.

That said - I ended up switching phones mostly to move to a new carrier but to be honest the S3 seems to have a 2 year lifespan as a number of little problems were beginning to pop up not only in my phone but those of my friends of a similar age.

The good news is you can get relatively cheap flagship level phones.
