Android Question

Having a problem with the battery recharge on my SGT 3 8" I went in to do a software update and it says that my Tab has have 'Custom Software' ie it's been rooted and that it cannot update the software anymore.

I called Samsung as I haven't rooted my Tab. I know absolutely nothing about rooting and most certainly haven't attempted to Root my Tab yet they have told me, by connecting to my Tab remotely, that it is definitely rooted.

HOW THE HECK could that have happened? I bought it new and no-one else really has access to it.

I just don't get it at all! What's going on?

I would try installing Joe Krim's Root Checker app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck) and/or JRummy's (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummyapps.rootchecker) to see what they report (i.e., to verify that they do indeed report that you are rooted).

I'd remove them afterwards--they're not root apps, but don't want to give Samsung more ammo to accuse you of having a rooted device just because you have a root-checking app installed.

You wouldn't happen to have tried to install the Superuser or SuperSU app would you? They wouldn't root your device, but their mere presence might cause Samsung to say/think that you are rooted (or had tried).

It would be nice if Samsung would tell you exactly what they had found...

(by the way, welcome to our AndroidForums! :))

HI :)

Thanks for your help.

I certainly haven't tried to install Superuser or SuperSU, I wouldn't even know what they are. I know that when I go Settings>About Device>Status it comes up with Device Status - Custom, as opposed to Official as Samsung told me it should be.

RESULTS :

JoeyKrims Root Checker - "Sorry! This device does not have root access" Current Device - SM-T310, Android Version 4.2.2

JRummys Root Check - NOT ROOTED

They are both telling me I'm not rooted. Confused.com!:(

Well, that's good news about root--I don't have any non-Nexus Samsung devices that show anything like the About device status you mention above (i.e., what might cause the "Custom" status you're reporting--unless that can get reported from unlocking the bootloader, etc., but I can't really speak to that).

Hopefully someone else has an idea (I can also move your thread to our SG Tab 3 8" area for you to see if the folks in there have any idea--let me know or ping me back here if you don't get any more responses in here and I'll move you to the Tab 3 area).

I didn't know there was a more appropriate area. I can create a new post there and leave this one here in case anyone else has some further input.
Thanks for your assistance.
