Help MicroSD Holder problem [Help needed :)]

Hey everyone!

I bought a class 6 microsd the other day, opened my phone, and when I was to put it in... I noticed that perhaps something was not as intended:

I looked through the instruction manual, and it mentions a memory card holder, that you slide your microSD into. As the pictures show, it seems mine is lacking that? - I bought the phone used, haven't noticed if it was lacking when I got it.
So! I tried booting the phone while manually holding the SD card tightly to the slot, and the phone doesn't notice it (running Galax0 1.6.3) - not in the OS, nor in recovery (when trying to format).

I have a hunch that *maybe* the phone registers that the SD has been "clicked in", and only tries to read it then?

I prefer to fix this myself, and I need your help:
1. Up-close pictures of your Galaxy microSD slot! (without & with card!).
2. Any knowledge on this potential "clicking", or how this memorycard thing works in general?
3. Worst case, anywhere I can buy a spare memorycard holder or whatever I need to fix this?
4. All advice in general on this issue!

It looks like the previous owner somehow managed to tear of the metal plate that is the sliding function..

You can prolly McGuyver it with some tape though!

Yeah, that's what I thought as well. But I'd really like to see a picture of how it's supposed to look - no luck with tape so far, and I'm wondering if some connection is needed for the phone to look and read from the SD.

Any help out there?

You best make sure that thing is tight; if I were you I'd try rigging a paper clip instead of tape. With tape, I'd be worried about losing data due to a loose connection.

I'll take a shot of my Galaxy "soon" () so you can see what it's supposed to look like.

I'm pretty certain there is an open/close sensor that he needs to figure out.

No sensor. Just a very slim bit of metal that needs to snap in place. Pictures coming ... soon.

All right, so here are a couple of photos. I hope they're of some help to you. The gist of it is this: if you want to rig something with, say, a paper clip, you don't have an awful lot of vertical space (then again, jamming against the back cover would not be a huge problem and may in fact be helpful).

As a side note, observe the small sensor on the internal edge of the card slot; I'm guessing this reports the presence of a card. In other words, I'm certain that the slot cover itself has no open/closed sensing ability.

... and it's working! Wasn't too hard after all.

Solution: A thing piece of plastic (around 1mm), a little smaller than the microSD. Slided microSD in place, carefully position the plastic on top, and while pressing down on both, tape them in place carefully and tight!
The trick is that the SD is detected by the two small metal-pieces being pushed aside by the SD. Therefore you need to make sure that the SD is slided in correctly, pushing them aside.

Prior to the plastic piece, I tried with some folded paper inbetween the SD and the tape, but it wouldn't stay in place for long.

Some problems I ran into while testing:
- One of the "hinges" of the phone cover bended slightly, as I was a little rough trying to put it in place while it couldn't due to the size of my little tweak. The "hinge" could be bent back though.
- Tape not sticking - cleaned with acetone.
- SD "popping" up, so not triggering the two metal-pieces anymore.
