Movies on the incredible

Yeah, I just encoded a movie using 480x272 and it looks great. Even on my 15" laptop screen. I think when you encode a movie from 5 gig to 800 meg it probably doesnt make a huge difference if you use 800 x 480 or 480 x 272. I'm not sure why that was what was being used in the dvdfab forum for the Nexus one. I will have to just try both and see how it turns out.

You shouldn't be able to drive if you think something at that resolution looked good on a 15" screen.

Folks, this is a classic debate, but recording the vids at full Inc resolution has drawbacks with no gains (unless you also plan on playing them back on a bigger display- laptop is example).

1. Drains more battery
2. Takes up over twice the space

Please download a video for PSP or iPod, iPhone (or format one this) and you will see that you will not notice a difference between the vids on a 3.7" display.

Output from the composite video of the Inc will also not use the higher resolution either. Composite video out is the constraint there. Not 720p output like the EVO (that puppy will run hot outputting that res to a display).

Do yourself a favor and get the dvd version of it. I couldn't imagine how long it would take to rip a bluray to a playable file for your phone.
Using Oxelon Media convertor 848x480, 30 FPS, 160 bitrate, sampling rate of 48000, AAC audio codec, H264 Video Codec and mp4 Media fomat.

These are the settings I used on my Moto Droid and the picture was full screen and perfect!!! As far as ripping a bluray and converting it took ( 12 Hours!!! ) and looked no better than standard DVD

Use dvdfab, i don't think handbrake will rip movies from blurays.

Do you have to buy these programs DVDFAB or Handbrake? Or can you download them for free?
Also, where can I get these movies to download?
And do I download them to the Memory Card? Or do I download them to the phone? I just ordered my phone and this is all very new to me, so I am sorry I am sounding like such a noob

Dvd fab is not free. Handbrake I believe is free and oxelon media converter is also free. Dvd fab will allow you to rip any movie u own and convert them to a viewable format for several listed mobile devices , also has a generic settings if your device isn't listed. Dvd fab can basically do it all but has limited settings when using the generic settings so if your picky as I am than it might not make you happy simply because it will leave a small black bar on the bottom and top when viewing the converted video. Oxelon as much more
customizable but can be a little tricky to use if you've never used video converting software . As far as where u can get movies , hopefully I won't get into any trouble mentioning this since most forums fround upon giving this kind of advise so I will only say this (look into torrenting)

Download the movies to your computer, convert them to .mp4 them there, then move the .mp4 files to the phone (memory card or internal memory).

I took one of my DVDs and used Handbrake to convert using the Iphone setting, but changed the width/height to the native 720x??? with the aspect ratio held solid.

It ripped a .m4v 859MB 720x464 video that looks and sounds GREAT.

For reference the video was already ripped down to my hard drive as a full quality ~2.5GB MPG copy of the original VOBs.

Hope it helps,

I am experiencing stuttering issues with the movies I have converted. I used the iPhone preset in handbrake and changed the resolution to 720x400 and tried playing a few movies. It seemed to be skipping quite a few frames and the audio was way out of sync. I played the same file fine on my iPod Touch and my computer. I put it on the internal memory just in case the SD card wasn't fast enough, but the same thing still happens.

Thanks - I appreciate it. I hope you don't get into trouble. I don't see why you should. But I do appreciate all the help. Thanks again!

Stupid question....I've got a ton of movies that I used to watch on my Blackberry. They're sized to 320x240 and they look great on my BB. When I use a conversion program to make them 720x480, am I losing quality by making a smaller movie bigger?

Am I better off ripping the movie, then converting the full size movie down to 720x480? Or will it make a difference?

Yes you are losing quality and yes it will definitely make a difference. :p The Inc's screen is 480x800, significantly more than the BB's resolution.
