Root Nexus 7 stuck on Google logo

Hi all,
Have been trying to get my nexus 7 (2013) with latest lollipop back to life, so far with help from other forums have got to this stage.

Currently I can recognise in my laptop device manager the "Google Nexus Bootloader Interface " as a device but not as a USB device nor can I see it in my computer/exploer

I have the tablet connected in Fastboot mode vis USB. It is in a locked state in the Fast boot mode. If I come out of Fastboot Mode it just shows the google logo.

I have the sdk tools zip file extracted. Within this folder I have applications called "Fastboot", "md5sums" and "adb".

In the command prompt I can run Fastboot Oem unlock and get to that screen on the tablet.

If I remain in fastboot mode what do I run next to get fastboot loader to the tablet or do I flash an image ?

Currently downloading a factory image from this webpage

Stuck as to what to try next, any help appreciated.

It would appear that to use Nexus Root Toolkit and reflash the device would require it to be in un locked bootloader mode. That is proving rather difficult to achieve. I have succeeded in getting to the screen to allow the bootloader be unlocked and have send a command "fastboot oem unlock" to the tablet to get there. Having pressed "Yes" via the power button the command prompt dialogue went from "unlocking boot loader" to "erasing data". It has been "erasing data" for over 70 mins, mind you there was 28GB of user data on the tablet. Question is, is the data being erased or has it locked up? How long should it take.

Hmm, sitting in the unlocking phase is not a good sign...

That (unlocking) process should take just a few seconds (or so) to complete.

I've seen and been involved in other threads for the 1st gen N7 (2012) had a similar issue and it always seemed to indicated a hardware problem (memory?) with that particular device [i.e., no magic answers].

There are apparently many people with this problem. My Nexus 7 (2013) was working fine for about a week after the Android 5.0 update. Then about two weeks ago one morning it had shut down. Now every time I try to start it it doesn't get past the Google logo at boot. I have not been able to factory reset or hard reset. Of course it has been 1 year and 1 month since I purchased mine from the Google store so it is just out of the warranty period.

Given the amount of people who are having this issue the problem would seem to be systemic. Asus is telling most people with an out of warranty unit (many people just barely out of the warranty period) that it will be $200 to repair/replace the tablet. This seems to be a prime situation for a class action lawsuit. Perhaps we could force Asus to replace all the defective units if we could get organized. Anyone know a decent lawyer who might be willing to take this on?

As stupid as it might sound, if you have used a magnetic case, this seems to be happening.

How to make it work?

The answer sounds even more ridiculous. Bump it hard on the left side while booting up.

Worked and still works for me.

Asus will send back your unit without any repair even if you were in warranty. They did that to me. They flash 4.4, which does not have this problem.

Try it and it might just work.

Right, say I have the charger connected to the righthand side, do I bump it hard on the left side in landscape or the bottom which would be left in portrait mode?

I have seen this post at three different forums. It doesn't work for me. I have bumped it and it still remains stuck on 'Google'. I had it in a magnetic case, which i have removed and still no dice.

Was there ever a solution to the problem? Since repair is expensive, that's no option for me.
Looked everywhere but never saw a solution was found. So: Throw it away and lose all data/ is there a solution?

As I've answered above, if its just stuck at the Google logo for no apparent reason( by which I mean it didn't stop working while flashing an factory image, unlocking, etc..), the only working fix I have is bumping it hard on the left hand side while it boots up. It's definitely not a solution for long term purposes but it at least boots the system up. And it's definitely better than throwing it away.

It was very bad on 5.0 but not so bad on 5.1 and above. It still exists though.

In the worst case scenario, you could try flashing 4.4 on the device. That is what Asus did for me.
