T-Mobile has posted that android 5.1 is dropping for the nexus 4, 5, and 7 starting today. The date on these sorts of things isnt always correct (remember Sprint's debacle?), but its a fairly safe assumption the update for our 6 will be happening as well, whenever the release may be. We also know the Verizon version that debuts on March 12th will be shipping with 5.1, so its really only a matter of time.

https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-5034

No changelog available yet, although 5.0.X has had its fair share of bugs. Hopefully this squashes quite a few.

"A leaked changelog for Android 5.1 tipped that the build brought improvements corresponding to bugs that were reported since Android 5.0 Lollipop release: addition of silent mode; improvements in system stability; improved RAM management; fixes for sudden app closures; improved battery management; excessive consumption of network devices when used Wi-Fi fixed; fixes for issues with wireless connections; fixes for Ok Google function; fixes for notifications problems; some sound problems experienced by certain devices fixed, and changes in the Material Design color palette."

I think it's pretty cool the nexus 4 and five are getting updates, a lot of companies abandon the older models after the newer ones come out,

I think it's pretty well understood that anything that got 5.0 will also get 5.1 (since it's largely bug fixes, and not a major named release). This will probably be the last update for the N4 and N7 (2012, at least). I imagine the N5 will still get Android M, whatever that may be.

I was unable to flash it because of this very reason. Fastboot drivers detect and work fine, but the device manager shows Nexus 6 with a yellow exclamation mark when I get to the Recovery menu. How were you able to fix it?

I feel ya buddy. I spent the whole morning dealing with adb driver issues for the sideload, finally got it flashed around noon, and then saw they were posted :banghead:

Now that the factory images are out, its easier to go that way.

I tried a bunch of different things, but for future reference I ended up having to uninstall and reinstall Koush's Universal ADB driver.

If you don't have it installed yet its very convenient.

THIS

I've run into a lot of headaches lately on Windows 8/8.1/10 with getting fastboot and adb drivers working reliably. Each time, the best fix is to uninstall/reinstall Koush's drivers.

I dumped Verizon and switched to Sprint when I got my Nexus 6, thinking that I had seen the last of Big Red. I was wrong! Lollipop 5.1 brings everyone Verizon Backup, regardless of carrier. Even worse, it can't be uninstalled.

http://phandroid.com/2015/03/12/nexus-6-verizon-backup-bloatware/
It takes up 32KB, isn't listed in the app drawer, and doesn't do anything at all. I don't know what the pitchforks are for.

Particularly when Sprint also requires their "bloatware" called SprintDM to be installed on the device as well. ;)

Honestly, I much prefer this approach over the alternative, in which VZW and Sprint N6's would be different than the GSM ones - and thereby lag behind with software updates (*cough*toro*coughcough*).
