Hey everyone,
Haven't noticed a decrease in battery life, but under battery stats Wi-fi is being accessed even with it off. I checked the advanced Wi-Fi settings and everything seems to be set to be off unless I enable it.

Kinda of lost as to what to do?

Any ideas?

Can anyone assist?

I looked at my battery stats just about an half hour ago and noticed that wifi was being used the whole time even though I had it off just about all day. I went into advanced settings for wifi and turned off the one thing that allows apps to check for wifi. So I won't know for awhile if that worked.

When I checked my battery after waking up I lost 8%. I checked battery stats and you can definitely see where I turned off the App wifi setting in advanced settings.

Haven't picked up my N6 yet (waiting for G Store availability) but I am running 5.0 on my N5. A buddy of mine told me about a free app called Y5 which allows you to keep WiFi off and you let the app know which WiFi spots you want to use. It will only turn WiFi on when it recognizes a hot spot that you pre-established then turns off when out of range. Been 3 days with it and it works perfectly and no battery drain because the phone is not always looking for available WiFi locations.

Appreciate it. Would rather Google fix it but this will do in the interim.

Just wanted to update, when I restarted it night before last and then charged it, after unplugging Wi-fi didn't show any usage for a while and then started showing again. Something is bypassing my off options and still accessing Wi-fi.

Not that I mind, but it shouldn't be using wi-fi at all since everything for it is off.

I am going to DL that Y5 app today and see if that helps.

Anyone else who has the phone in hands experiencing my original issue?

I keep wifi on all the time, but it's not been a power issue at all for me. On the off-chance that it continues to scan for open wifi AP's, when you had the period where there was no wifi activity reported, were you within scanning range of a WiFi access point?

Yes, I've been home and out of the house when its looking. The day of no activity I was at home for sure.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

I constantly have WiFi and Bluetooth enabled, I have the Moto 360 so it's necessity to have both on at all times. I am lucky in that my company has WiFi and I have WiFi at home so honestly in my case it saves me battery cause it's never searching for a signal. My battery life has been superb so far so I am not complaining. IF it's a bug, I am sure updates will be coming to get it nailed down. This is Google's opus (5.0 Lollipop) they will want to make sure it's "right" in short order.

I usually don't keep it enabled although it shows in the battery states thing that it's being used on and off all day. For the life of me I can't figure out why? I don't know how much it's affecting my battery drain, but I'm getting 2-2 1/2 days out of a charge with about 3 hours screen time. Hopefully as updates come about it will be corrected.

Oddly, with my Moto X it was doing the same thing. However it was worse in that I could not use WiFi and BT at the same time, if BT was on it would not connect to WiFi so I would have it (WiFi) turned off all day while I had my 360 on. IT STILL SHOWED AS WiFi ON in the battery stats and SUBSTANTIAL battery drain at the end of the day due to WiFi.

I am sure this will all get worked out.

What i have read 5.0.1 is having a few bugs and wifi is one of them... Here is my issue..

I have at&t u verses but technical its dsl no fiber optic available in my area (6mb download speed) ..... I live in a townhouse and I will lose connection almost daily... I had a lg g3 and lost connection and or it would lag but daughter would be watching Netflix or on tablet using youtube.... 4 days ago i canceled Netflix and daughter no longer has tablet (another story there).... It only happens when i am upstairs the router is downstairs signal strength is still good but i will disconnect and i have to reboot phone for it to reconnect which is inconsistent.. It will show it connecting then not connect..... Router/modem is brand new......... I tried switching frequency band as well....

My wifi settings

It sounds as though you're experiencing some interference when you're upstairs. Possible, at least. But first, just so what below is clear, let me explain some WiFi basics...

Routers all have a 2.4GHz band and most newer ones, all but cheap units, also have a 5GHz band. The router broadcasts both bands simultaneously. 5GHz is usually faster than 2.4GHz but 5GHz doesn't carry as far or penetrate walls as well. Dual-band routers are nice. You get 5GHz speed for devices close enough to the router and 2.4GHz range for farther away.

Your LG G3, being a good, recent model, is capable of using either band. The 'Automatic' setting let's the phone automatically switch to whichever band is available or the best signal. Depending on the signal quality around your house, you might want to change that to use one band or another - or maybe not.

You need to determine the best setup for your situation and configure the router and phone accordingly. If you can't configure the AT&T router yourself, get help from their tech support. They can configure it remotely.

If you have a dual band router, (likely) have them give the 5GHz and 2.4 GHz bands a different SSID. When setting up the 5GHz band set the router to use a channel well over 100. Over 150 if there's a clear channel. For both bands use channels with the least interference and best signal.

To find the best setup I use WiFi Overview 360. An excellent tool, it's the best WiFi analyzer I've found. The free version is probably all you need but the Pro version is cheap. The Google Fiber guys use it to setup WiFi when doing installations.

Can you maintain a connection to any other router? Try connecting to a friend's network or use a hotspot in a library or coffee shop. If it still drops the connection, then we can assume it's the phone. In that case, you might look for a warranty replacement.

If you can keep the connection, then I would try a factory reset. Bit of a pain to set your phone up again, but it would give us a clean slate to start from.

We need more specific information. Sorry, but just saying that it doesn't work right isn't much help in pinning down the trouble.

1. Are you using:
a. 2.4GHz
b. 5GHz
c. either one, doesn't matter or...
d. you don't know what band you're using
...when you have trouble?

2. Have you installed WiFi Overview 360 and taken a look at your WiFi environment? If so, can you give some results? Best channels for each band, signal strength, etc.

3. Do you know how the AT&T tech setup the router? Channels used, SSID names, etc?

4. You said he ran some tests but did he use a WiFi analyzer and really try to diagnose the problem or just blow in, pretty much do a standard setup and blow out?

5. Did the AT&T tech say anything in particular? Give any suggestions or interesting comments?

That just tells me they have a very short lease period.

This indicates that there's nothing wrong with your phone.

Strange thing is girlfriend has note 3 and she will loose connection but her phone will immediately reconnect where mine will try to read it to reconnect but only reconnects unless i reboot.

When you say reconnect, do you mean that it will acknowledge being connected to the router but not connect through to the internet? or that it shows no connection whatsoever?

The next time this happens, instead of rebooting your phone, reboot the router and do nothing to your phone. If your phone connects immediately after the router comes online, then it's the router that's the problem.
