ok I rooted the phone a while back and was using fresh 1.1, probably over a month ago. Recently I've been missing incoming text messages and now not receiving my exchange emails, so I figured I'd go ahead and update to 2.0d (sticking with fresh)

I downloaded the zip and flashed it but it didn't boot up (waited over 30 minutes) it just stayed on with the animated htc text...

multiple attempts with the same results.
even tried Damagecontrol 2.08 and it boots and and I even get the sprint animated logo but stays at the htc "quietly brillant" and goes no further.
any thoughts.

Did you do a wipe? Second, with Fresh 2.0d, if you were using apps2sd then that would account for the freezing.

From Geek for me:

If it freezes during first boot then you were likely using a2sd from another rom. Unfortunately during earlier 2.x roms there were a few versions of a2sd floating around and now that is going to cause problems. If this happens to you (and you already did a factory reset like you should have) then you will need to boot in to RA and go to wipe and then Wipe SD:Ext Partition. This will delete all apps off your sdcard. You will want to reflash the rom if you have to do this or else you will be missing some apps from the rom.

yes I did a wipe, and no I wasn't apps2sd.
I partitioned the card and copied the "fresh-cdma-hero-2.0d.zip" to the root and tried flashing it again, still no go. Now that I'm still able to flash fresh 1.1 is still rooted

ok fixed the problem we had to upgrade the ext2 to ext3 on the sd card for some reason and wiped the dalvik cache now damagecontrol 2.08 is on, now just setting up the phone with google again

nope it's Damage Control 2.08 and I skipped the initial setup process because it kept failing but went back to into google account and it worked? wierd, now I just wish there was a way to get text messages after the card was deleted, lol oh well at least my email is now syncing correctly.

Good, you got your Google back. From your OP I thought you were running Fresh 2.0d. Were your texts backed up on your SD card? For your old texts that were on your SD card, there is nothing you can do unless you want to try running some type of recover utility. For the future, there are apps for backing up your texts, and this one is the one I like. SMS Backup & Restore v2.6 Application for Android | Tools
